Roles and responsibilities

We are looking to appoint a Performing Arts teacher to join our Performing and Visual Arts Department who:

· Has proven experience teaching Performing Arts, Drama or Theatre Studies in Middle and High School (GCSE, IB Diploma Level or A Level experience in at least one of these subjects would be considered favourably)

· Is passionate about teaching and learning and committed to continuous improvement.

· Can deliver engaging lessons that inspire students and foster their critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving skills.

· Is committed to Hamilton's vision of igniting passion, purpose, and potential in our students.

· Can contribute to curriculum development and the growth of Performing Arts, creating enriching opportunities for student learning.

· Has experience planning, assessing, and adapting curricula to meet diverse student needs while maintaining progress for the whole class.

· Demonstrates excellent communication skills with students, colleagues, parents, and school leadership.

· Maintains high standards of student behavior, ensuring safety and compliance with school policies.

· Is passionate about learning beyond the classroom, with experience leading a range of Performing Arts initiatives or educational trips.

· Is willing to actively engage with the annual school musical

· Can offer additional skills (the ability to offer LAMDA training is desirable)

· Is willing to develop IB Performing Arts and IB Theatre in the future
Teaching and Instruction
Lesson Planning and Delivery: Design and deliver engaging lessons in the performing arts, tailored to the specific discipline being taught (e.g., music, dance, drama). These lessons should incorporate theoretical learning, practical skills, and performance techniques.
Creative Curriculum: Develop and implement a balanced curriculum that covers all aspects of the performing arts, including technique, theory, history, and performance. Ensure that the curriculum is appropriate for the age and skill level of students.
Skill Development: Provide students with the technical skills and knowledge needed for their chosen performance medium, such as vocal techniques, acting methods, choreography, and musical skills.
Performance Opportunities: Organize performance-based activities such as recitals, plays, concerts, and dance showcases that allow students to demonstrate their skills in front of an audience.
Encourage Creativity: Foster students' creativity, helping them to explore their individual artistic abilities and express themselves confidently through their art form.
Differentiation: Cater to the varying skill levels of students by differentiating instruction, ensuring that all students, whether beginners or advanced, are engaged and challenged.

Desired candidate profile

Expert Knowledge in Performing Arts: A strong understanding of the principles and techniques involved in various performing arts disciplines (acting, dancing, music, etc. and the ability to teach these effectively.
Creative Teaching: Ability to think creatively when designing lessons and performances, encouraging students to explore new ideas and push boundaries in their artistic expression.
Communication Skills: Strong verbal and non-verbal communication skills to effectively convey complex concepts and inspire students. The ability to give clear and constructive feedback.
Organizational Skills: Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, from lesson planning to organizing performances, rehearsals, and events.
Classroom Management: Strong classroom management skills, especially in ensuring students remain focused during practical activities, and fostering a respectful and collaborative classroom environment.
Collaborative Spirit: A willingness to collaborate with other teachers, students, and external partners to enhance the school's performing arts offerings.
