Museum Development Specialist

Key Accountabilities:
Role purpose: The Museum Development Specialist supports the Director of Museum Development in planning, coordinating, and implementing various aspects of the museum's development initiatives. This role focuses on providing comprehensive support across key development areas including architectural and exhibition design, digital innovation, museology research and interpretation, and audience development. With a strong foundation in museology, the Museum Development Specialist will help translate the museum's vision into actionable plans, facilitate communication between stakeholders, conduct research on museum best practices, and assist in decision-making processes.
- Architectural and Exhibition Design Support: Assist the Museum Development team in gathering information, documenting processes, and supporting coordination between the museum and architectural partners. Help with preparation of documentation and tracking of architectural and exhibition design development to ensure alignment with museum requirements and vision.
- Museography Assistance: Support the development of exhibition design planning by gathering curatorial requirements, helping document exhibition design processes, and assisting with the integration of designs that meet visitor experience goals and operational requirements.
- Digital Innovation Support: Assist with research on emerging technologies and digital solutions relevant to museum contexts, helping develop background materials for digital strategy documents, and supporting the planning for technology related to visitor experiences and operational workflows.
- Visitor Experience Development: Contribute to planning visitor journeys by collecting relevant information from stakeholders, assisting with background research for visitor touchpoints, and helping evaluate the effectiveness of proposed visitor experiences within gallery spaces and online platforms.
- Audience Development Support: Assist with audience development initiatives by helping gather data for market research, supporting the organization of focus groups, analyzing data, and documenting insights to inform strategic planning for developing new and diverse audiences.
- Museology Interpretation Assistance: Support the interpretation development process by conducting background research, helping document interpretation strategies, and assisting with the evaluation of interpretive materials to ensure they effectively communicate content to diverse audiences.
- Museology Research: Conduct research on contemporary museology debates, trends, and innovations to keep colleagues informed about developments in the field. Prepare concise briefing documents on future of museums discussions, emerging museological approaches, and relevant case studies that can inform Lusail Museum's development.
- Project Documentation: Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for various museum development initiatives, ensuring thorough record-keeping of decisions, processes, and outputs.
- Stakeholder Communication: Help prepare presentations, reports, and communications materials for various stakeholders, including internal teams, board members, donors, and partners.
- Cross-functional Coordination: Support communication between various museum departments to ensure cohesive planning across curatorial, operations, education, and digital teams. =

Qualifications/Requirements:

- QUALIFICATIONS
- Strong knowledge of museum operations, exhibition development, and museology principles.
- Understanding of contemporary museum theory, debates, and research.
- Familiarity with architectural design processes and exhibition design principles.
- Understanding of audience development approaches.

- Bachelor's degree in Museum Studies, Museology, Cultural Management, or related field. Master's degree preferred.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in museum settings or cultural institutions.
- Experience in project coordination or support in cultural contexts.
- Experience supporting institutional development projects or exhibition development.
- Research experience related to museology or cultural institutions.
