Job responsibilities for Kitchen Technician
- **Maintenance and Repair**: Perform regular maintenance and troubleshooting on a variety of kitchen equipment, such as ovens, refrigerators, dishwashers, grills, fryers, and mixers. Repair malfunctioning equipment to minimize downtime in the kitchen.
- **Installation of New Equipment**: Install and set up new kitchen equipment, ensuring it is properly connected, calibrated, and operating efficiently before use in catering operations.
- **Equipment Testing**: Conduct regular testing and inspections to ensure all kitchen equipment is functioning correctly. Check for potential issues, wear and tear, or performance problems.
- **Preventive Maintenance**: Implement and schedule preventive maintenance tasks to extend the lifespan of kitchen equipment and prevent unexpected breakdowns. This could include cleaning filters, checking connections, or replacing worn-out parts.
- **Troubleshooting**: Quickly identify and diagnose issues with kitchen equipment. Utilize troubleshooting techniques to efficiently find solutions and fix problems, often under pressure in a busy catering environment.
- **Record Keeping and Documentation**: Maintain detailed records of maintenance schedules, repairs performed, parts replaced, and any other relevant information. This ensures proper tracking for warranty purposes, audits, and future reference.
- **Compliance with Safety Standards**: Ensure all kitchen equipment is compliant with health, safety, and environmental standards. This includes making sure that electrical, gas, and water systems connected to the equipment are functioning safely.
- **Training Staff**: Train kitchen staff on the correct usage and basic maintenance of equipment to ensure it is used properly and to prevent misuse that could cause damage.
- **Inventory and Ordering Parts**: Keep track of spare parts inventory, such as filters, belts, seals, or electrical components. Order parts when necessary and ensure they are stocked for future repairs.
- **Coordination with Suppliers**: Work closely with suppliers and vendors to source replacement parts and equipment, or to arrange for any external service calls if the repair requires more specialized support.
- **Adapting to Catering Needs**: Understand the specific needs of the catering service, such as high-volume cooking or large-scale events, and ensure the equipment is in optimal condition to meet those demands.
- **Emergency Repairs**: Be available to handle emergency breakdowns, particularly during high-pressure periods (e.g., before large events), to avoid disruptions in service.
- **Upgrading and Improving Equipment**: Stay informed about new kitchen technologies and recommend equipment upgrades or replacements to improve efficiency, safety, or quality of service.
- **Collaboration with Kitchen Management**: Work closely with chefs, kitchen managers, and catering coordinators to understand specific equipment needs and to ensure that any issues are addressed promptly to support the flow of operations.
- **Cleaning and Sanitation**: Ensure equipment is cleaned and sanitized regularly as part of routine maintenance, adhering to food safety and cleanliness standards required in catering services.
