Director of Finance and Operations

The Director of Finance and Operations (DFO) is a member of the school’s senior leadership team reporting directly to the Head of School and is responsible for business operations, including: finances; facilities management; procurement; contracting; safety and security; food service; and transportation. The DFO participates in all Board of Directors meetings and is the facilitator of the Finance and Facilities Committee. The DFO participates in other committee meetings as needed.

The DFO will utilize his or her leadership and managerial skills, maintaining a highly collaborative working relationship with the Head of School and school leadership, to ensure cohesive messaging of the strategic goals and objectives, including alternatives and their financial implications, for consideration by board committees and other constituencies.

As the senior financial administrator at ASD, the appointee oversees the development, administration, and reporting on the operating and capital budgets to the Board of Directors, auditors, local ministries and other constituencies as necessary.

**Performance Responsibilities**:
**Finance, Accounting and Procurement**
- Supervise Business Office activities involving accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, cash, general ledger, procurement, tuition billing and collection, and other accounting systems.
- Oversee the school’s financial affairs including: formulating and control of the Board of Directors approved budget, conducting financial analysis summaries, ensuring compliance with all regulations, coordinating external audits and conducting risk-management assessments and implementation.
- Supervise the preparation of detailed monthly and year-end financial reports for the Head of School and the Board of Directors.
- Prepare and present to the Finance Committee and the Board apprising both stakeholders as to the financial health of the school.
- Assemble preliminary annual budget from departmental requests and estimates operating expenses and income.
- Develops recommendations to the Finance Committee on annual tuition increases as well as salary pool increases in consultation with the Head of School.
- Build and/or maintain the School’s short and long-term strategic financial models.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with bankers, legal advisors, government agencies, and other entities.
- Oversee all legal and contractual agreements including, but not limited to, rental of facilities, construction projects and service providers.

**Facilities, Maintenance, Food Service, Transportation, and Security**
- Supervise Facilities, Safety and Securities activities.
- Ensure appropriate maintenance and servicing of all school facilities, grounds and equipment.
- Manages the property and casualty insurance.
- Supervises the Food Service vendor and their activities involving food preparation.
- Oversees relationships with transportation vendors. Responsible for transportation internally and externally.
- Oversees relationship with security guard company.
- Oversees the establishment of policies and protocols in relation to building safety and security.

**Auxiliary Programs**
- Management of all school calendar for activities and events.
- Facility rentals.
- Non-tuition income generated from outside partnerships.
- Liaison with parent groups and associated stakeholders on campus events and activities.

**Admissions and Human Resources**
- Partners with the Director of Admission regarding enrollment, programming and related budget implications.
- Partners with the Director of Human Resources to oversee the compensation budget including compensation, housing, travel, health insurance, retirement, and other related plans.

**Qualifications and Experience**:

- Bachelor’s degree with a major in finance, economics or accounting.
- Minimum of five years experience in a DFO/CFO/Assistance CFO/Business Manager role in an educational environment or related sector with specific expertise in areas of:

- Finance, accounting and procurement
- Facilities, maintenance, food service, transportation and security
- Demonstrated excellent interpersonal and communication skills as well as strong analytical, decision-making and planning skills
- Experience working with Boards
- Demonstrated excellent organizational and managerial skills and the ability to work collaboratively with faculty and the administrative team to ensure that the goals and plans are achieved
- Experience and commitment to leadership of equity, diversity, inclusion and social justice strategies and practices
- Experience and commitment to child protection programs that safeguard the welfare of students
