Quantity Surveyor

One of our clients in Ireland is currently looking for a Quantity Surveyor with experience in water treatment or wastewater.
The main duties and responsibilities of the Quantity Surveyor are outlined as follows:
- Work as part of a team in the commercial oversight of multiple programmes and projects, embracing the ethos of a "one team" culture.
- Respect, adhere and enhance Health, Safety, Environmental & Sustainability standards.
- Work closely with all key stakeholders including clients, client representatives and third-party agencies.
- Ensure our values of integrity, collaboration, courage, agility and accountability are upheld in day-to-day operations and interactions with our clients.
- Development and implementation of project-specific commercial/contract strategies.
- Assist in the cost build-up and forecasting for projects.
- Support the delivery team in the appointment of key packages including final negotiations and supplier/sub-contract agreements.
- Compile monthly payment applications and submit to the Client as per Contract Requirements. Ensure healthy cash position on contracts is maintained.
- Provide cost backup and cost reconciliation as required for the payment process.
- Monitor and challenge change control with the Project delivery teams.
- Assess monthly payment claims from sub-contractors and process payment certificates. Agree on a final account and associated payment certificate at the end of their scope.
- Conduct monthly earned value reporting and ensure an accurate view is taken on cost accruals, working progress, cashflow position and costs to completion.
- Develop, negotiate and manage all commercial agreements/contracts to mitigate risks and optimise opportunities.
- Support project delivery teams in the commercial management of contractual issues arising during the delivery of contracts.
- Be aware of any changes in legislation, geopolitical issues, or weather events which may affect the delivery of contracts. Support project delivery teams in ensuring protection and recovery, if required, because of these events.
- Analyse and report on complex situations and potential opportunities/risks of variations to cost or programme.
- Build relationships with equivalent client-side commercial leads and instil an ethos of trust and collaboration.
- Work with delivery teams to develop final accounts, and liaise with the clients to try to resolve these final accounts.
- Escalate any disputes to the Commercial Manager and Commercial Director.
- Build and promote industry-leading teams by providing training and mentoring to more junior staff.
- Seek to improve the commercial management processes by providing lessons learned feedback and innovative solutions for adoption on future contracts.
- Work self-motivated and autonomously if required.
- Keep appraised of the latest standards and technology through continuous professional development (CPD).
- Other duties as required from time to time.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
The main knowledge, skills and experience required of the Quantity Surveyor are outlined as follows:
- Minimum of 5 years' experience working in a similar role, preferably in the Civil Engineering Sector.
- Minimum of a Level 8 Honours Degree in a relevant Quantity Surveying Qualification.
- Competent understanding of international, local and bespoke forms of contract such as FIDIC, NEC, IChemE, PWC, etc.
- Experience in managing change control, risks, opportunities, budget control and variations is essential.
- Experience in monthly routines such as Earned Value Reporting is essential.
- Experience in compiling and drafting contractual entitlements is desirable.
- Ability to use own initiative, problem solve and adjust as issues arise during contract.
- Excellent working knowledge of MS packages such as Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Project.
- Strong communication skills with a high level of motivation.
- Full Driving License.
