Responsibilities

Supervision responsibilities

  • Managing the fleet of vehicles: Must ensure that the organization's fleet of vehicles is properly maintained and that all vehicles are available and ready for use. This involves scheduling regular maintenance, inspections, and repairs to minimize downtime and maximize vehicle utilization.
  • Managing yard and transport personnel: Responsible for managing yard and transport staff, including hiring, training, and performance evaluations. They must ensure that their team is well-trained, motivated, and equipped with the necessary tools to carry out their duties effectively .

Administration responsibilities

  • Planning and organizing transportation operations: Responsible for creating and implementing transportation strategies that ensure the timely delivery of goods and services. This includes determining transportation modes, routes, and schedules, as well as coordinating with other departments to ensure smooth operations.
  • Maintaining records and documentation: Responsible for maintaining accurate records and documentation related to transportation and yard operations. This includes tracking shipments, maintaining inventory records, and ensuring that all documentation is up-to-date and in compliance with relevant regulations.
  • Managing yard and transport costs: Must manage yard & transport cost to ensure that they are with the organizations budget. This involves negotiating contracts with suppliers, optimizing shipping routes and identifying cost saving opportunities.
  • Plays a critical role in ensuring that yard and transportation operations run smoothly and efficiently, ultimately contributing to the success of the organization.

Technical responsibilities

  • Managing yard operations: Responsible for managing the organization's yard operations, including the receiving, storage, and dispatch of goods. This involves overseeing loading and unloading operations, maintaining accurate inventory records, and ensuring that all equipment is in good working condition.
  • Ensuring compliance with regulations: Must ensure that all yard & transportation operations are following relevant regulations, such as those related to transportation, hazardous materials. They must also ensure that all staff are trained and aware of relevant regulations .
  • A degree or diploma in logistics, supply chain management, or a related field.
  • Experience in transportation or logistics management, ideally in a leadership role.
  • Proficiency in using logistics and inventory management software.
  • Familiarity with various types of vehicles and equipment used in transportation and yard operations.
