The candidate of this position will be responsible to effectively work with multiple interfaces including colleges (departments heads, associate dean for academic affairs, and dean); colleges under the QU-Health cluster (QU-health Director for clinical education and heads of clinical training for colleges); and clinical training site(s) (mainly, but not limited to HMC; PHCC, Sidra; Aspetar, community pharmacies, and private hospitals). Roles and Responsibilities include:

Clinical Education Support

  • Recruit and Onboard Preceptors: Proactively recruit new preceptors and clinical instructors to expand the clinical education network. Ensure the onboarding process is streamlined and supports high-quality instruction.
  • Professional Development and Training: Organize and facilitate professional development seminars and workshops for clinical instructors and preceptors, focusing on innovative teaching methodologies, clinical education best practices, and evidence-based practices. Develop a standardized patient pool and oversee their training, ensuring they are well-prepared to support clinical simulations.
  • Preceptor Performance Appraisal: Lead the design and implementation of a comprehensive performance appraisal system for preceptors. Provide constructive feedback and offer ongoing professional development opportunities based on performance evaluations.

Focal Point and Mentorship: - Liaison Between Clinical Sites and Health Cluster:

  • Act as the primary point of contact between clinical sites and the health cluster. Ensure smooth communication and address any challenges or concerns that arise during clinical training.
  • Student Mentorship and Support: Serve as a mentor and advisor to students, providing guidance during their clinical placements. Support students in navigating academic or clinical challenges and facilitate communication with preceptors and healthcare professionals.
  • Support recruitment and training of standardized patients.

International Electives and Internships

  • Facilitate International Electives: Lead the development and coordination of international elective opportunities for students, ensuring that they have access to diverse global healthcare environments. Oversee the approval process for elective sites and ensure they meet educational and safety standards.
  • Expand International Internships: Identify and secure international internship opportunities at prestigious healthcare institutions. Develop partnerships with global clinical education sites and ensure alignment with the academic and clinical goals of the health cluster.
  • Student Support for International Placements: Provide guidance and support to students interested in pursuing international electives or internships. Assist with placement logistics, including travel arrangements, visa requirements, and ensuring compliance with institutional policies.
  • Global Partnerships: Establish and maintain relationships with international healthcare institutions, academic organizations, and industry partners to expand global clinical training opportunities. Negotiate agreements and ensure the quality of student experiences abroad.

Increasing Opportunities for Clinical Placements

  • Develop MOUs and Clinical training Agreements: Negotiate and establish new Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) with local, national, and international clinical education sites. Ensure agreements align with program objectives and provide diverse, high-quality clinical experiences for students.
  • Expand Clinical Training Opportunities: Actively seek new clinical placement sites, both domestically and internationally, with reputable institutions. Enhance the breadth and depth of training opportunities for students by opening pathways to prestigious clinical education environments.

Financial Management

  • Budgeting and Financial Oversight: Manage the financial aspects of clinical education programs, including resource allocation, preceptor compensation, and other operational expenses. Ensure that budgets are carefully planned and aligned with program goals.
  • Preceptor Compensation: Lead the process for the annual remuneration and compensation of preceptors. Ensure all financial transactions are timely, accurate, and aligned with institutional policies.
  • Financial Reporting: Prepare detailed financial reports that outline expenditures related to student placements, preceptor compensation, and resource utilization. Provide insights and recommendations for efficient financial management.

Innovation and Assessment

  • Innovative Assessment Tools: Lead the development and implementation of innovative evaluation and assessment tools to measure student performance, clinical competencies, and preceptor effectiveness.

Collaboration with CETL and simulation center:

  • Collaborate with the Center Excellence of Teaching and Learning (CETL) team to integrate cutting-edge technologies into clinical education. Explore opportunities to enhance learning through digital platforms, simulations, and interactive tools.

Data Management, Reports, and Communication

  • Data Management: Maintain accurate, up-to-date records related to clinical placements, preceptor performance, and student rotations. Ensure data integrity across all systems and provide timely updates.
  • Reporting and Newsletters: Prepare and distribute detailed reports on clinical education activities, performance metrics, and student feedback. Contribute to the creation and editing of the experiential education newsletter to share updates, achievements, and new initiatives with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Feedback and Program Improvement: Continuously monitor feedback from students, preceptors, and clinical sites. Use the data to drive improvements in the clinical education program and ensure readiness for accreditation reviews.

Outreach and Public Engagement

  • Marketing and Awareness Campaigns: Develop and lead marketing initiatives to promote clinical education within the institution and to external stakeholders. Organize public awareness events to showcase the importance and impact of clinical education.
  • Newsletter and Outreach: Lead the creation of newsletters and communication strategies that keep the community informed about clinical education developments. Engage with external stakeholders and healthcare institutions to strengthen partnerships.

Research, Grant Writing, and Innovation

  • Research Collaboration: Collaborate with faculty and external researchers to pursue research opportunities in clinical education, training competencies, and innovative teaching methods. Contribute to a growing body of knowledge in the field.
  • Grant Writing: Seek out grant funding opportunities to support innovative clinical education programs. Write and submit grant proposals to secure additional resources for program growth and development.
  • Scholarly Contributions: Participate in research and scholarly initiatives, contributing to publications, conference presentations, and workshops. Share findings and insights with the broader academic and clinical education community.
  • Evidence-Based Practice: Guide students in applying evidence-based practices during their clinical placements. Ensure they are equipped with the latest knowledge and skills to provide high-quality, patient-centered care.

Qualifications

  • MSc or equivalent in health-related fields
  • PhD degree or equivalent in health-related fields (preferred)
  • Has professional and/or administrative experience in relevant settings.
  • Has documented accomplishments in teaching, research, and service at a level to be appointed as a faculty member in one of the academic departments of the colleges.
