Job Title: Safety Officer – Metro Station

Project: Metro Station Construction/maintenance project

Department: Health, Safety & Environment (HSE)

Reports To: Project Manager

Objective:

To oversee and ensure the implementation of safety policies, procedures, and practices during the construction or development of a metro station. The Safety Officer will play a key role in ensuring compliance with legal safety regulations, minimizing risk, and fostering a culture of safety among all workers and contractors on-site.

Key Responsibilities:1. Site Safety Monitoring:

  • Monitor daily site activities to ensure adherence to the approved safety plan.
  • Conduct regular inspections to identify unsafe conditions, hazards, or unsafe acts.
  • Ensure corrective actions are implemented in a timely manner.

2. Compliance & Documentation:

  • Ensure all work complies with local laws, international safety standards (OSHA, ISO 45001), and project-specific HSE policies.
  • Maintain detailed records of safety inspections, audits, incidents, and risk assessments.
  • Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly HSE reports for management and clients.

3. Risk Assessment & Method Statements (RAMS):

  • Participate in the development and review of risk assessments and method statements.
  • Ensure that all personnel are briefed and understand RAMS before beginning any high-risk work.

4. Induction & Safety Training:

  • Conduct HSE induction for all workers and subcontractors before they start work on site.
  • Provide ongoing safety training and toolbox talks to improve awareness.
  • Promote a strong safety culture among workers.

5. Emergency Preparedness:

  • Ensure that emergency response plans are in place and communicated.
  • Conduct regular drills (fire, evacuation, first aid) in coordination with emergency services if required.
  • Maintain emergency equipment in ready condition.

6. Incident/Accident Investigation:

  • Lead investigations for any incidents, near misses, or accidents on site.
  • Identify root causes and recommend corrective and preventive actions.
  • Ensure lessons learned are shared and implemented.

7. Safety Equipment & PPE:

  • Ensure availability and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Verify that tools and machinery have proper safety guards and certifications.
  • Inspect safety signage, fencing, barricades, and lighting for compliance.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Education: Diploma or Bachelor's in Occupational Safety, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
  • Certifications: NEBOSH IGC, OSHA, IOSH, or equivalent HSE certification.
  • Experience: Minimum 3–5 years of experience as a Safety Officer in construction, preferably on metro/rail infrastructure projects.
  • Skills:
  • Strong knowledge of construction safety regulations and standards.
  • Ability to identify hazards and implement solutions effectively.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Strong leadership and coordination abilities.

Working Conditions:

  • Environment: Active construction site with exposure to noise, dust, and heavy equipment.
  • Schedule: Full-time, site-based, with potential for extended hours or weekend work.
  • PPE Required: Safety helmet, vest, boots, gloves, goggles, etc.

Goal:

To ensure zero accidents and full compliance with safety standards throughout all phases.

Job Type: Temporary

Contract length: 1 month

Expected hours: No less than 8 per week
