Job Summary

The Mill Floor Operator is responsible for operating equipment on the rolling mill floor, ensuring smooth production flow, monitoring machine performance, and maintaining product quality. This role requires strong technical understanding, quick decision-making, and experience in steel mill operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate rolling mill floor equipment according to production plans.
  • Monitor bar movement, guiding and adjusting materials during rolling processes.
  • Check product quality (size, shape, straightness) and report deviations immediately.
  • Coordinate with mill pulpit operators, cooling bed teams, and assistants.
  • Perform equipment checks, lubrication, and minor adjustments.
  • Assist in resolving production stoppages or material jams.
  • Maintain logs of production activities and machine parameters.
  • Ensure compliance with safety procedures and PPE requirements.

Requirements

  • ITI/Diploma or similar technical qualification preferred.
  • 2–4 years of experience in rolling mill operations within a steel plant.
  • Good understanding of rolling sequences, bar behavior, and mill equipment.
  • Ability to react quickly to operational issues to minimize downtime.
  • Physically fit and capable of working in high-temperature environments.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
