Job Description: Industrial Hygienist Specialist

Department: Safety & Occupational Health Department, HSE&Q Group

Job Purpose: To provide technical industrial hygiene support aimed at achieving production goals and ensuring safe construction activities by controlling health hazards in the workplace.

Reporting and Relationships:

 

 

  • Reports to: Head of Occupational Health and Industrial Hygiene.
  • Internal: Regular contact with HSE&Q leadership team, Occupational Health and Industrial Hygiene section staff, Manufacturing Asset Team, Facilities Management Team, and Development Group / Project Team.
  • External: Interaction with Contractors, Consultants, Supreme Council of Health, Ministry of Municipality and Environment, Qatar Petroleum (QP), and Ras Laffan City Staff.

    • Ensure compliance with occupational health standards and international regulations.
    • Manage health hazards (physical, chemical, biological) in accordance with Company policies and government laws.
    • Influence operations teams to adopt sustainable solutions for minimizing health risks.

      • Operates within the budget and authority delegated at this job level.

        • Ensure all activities comply with Company Safety, Health, Environment, and Quality (SHEQ) policies and standards.
        • Support Qatarization Program by contributing to the development of Qatari employees.
        • Adhere to anti-trust and competition laws and Company firewall policies.

          Key Job Accountabilities:

           

           

          • Lead the development and implementation of Industrial Hygiene Program (IHP) to meet occupational health standards and regulations.
          • Conduct Health Risk Assessments (HRA) and present findings to relevant teams, prioritizing health risks and proposing effective solutions.
          • Develop Annual Exposure Assessment Strategy (EAS) and manage procurement of necessary equipment and consumables to support the program.
          • Design and evaluate monitoring strategies for personal exposure assessments across onshore, offshore, and offsite locations.
          • Evaluate workplace health issues raised by operations and projects, recommend control measures, and collaborate with Medical Department for medical monitoring.
          • Conduct audits to assess compliance with IHP across facilities and identify areas for improvement.
          • Establish engineering and administrative controls to minimize exposure risks and provide training on health protection measures.
          • Develop and deliver training programs on various industrial hygiene topics, ensuring competency assessment for Qatari National NDP programs.
          • Participate in shutdown planning to ensure adequate resources and specific EAS implementation, contributing to lessons learned processes.
          • Identify process changes and improvement opportunities, develop action plans, and establish key performance indicators to support continuous improvement.
          • Review safety assessments for new chemicals and recommend appropriate control measures to mitigate exposure risks.
          • Person Specification - Minimum Requirements:
             
          • Bachelor's degree in Industrial Hygiene, Chemical/Environmental Engineering, Chemistry, or Environmental Health Sciences.
        • Professional designation as an Industrial Hygienist (CIH, ROH, COH) and additional safety certifications (e.g., CSP, CRSP, CMIOSH) highly desirable.
      • Minimum 10 years' experience in industrial hygiene/occupational health and safety, with at least 5 years in oil and gas or petrochemical/manufacturing sectors.
    • Proficient in English, computer literate (MS Office, environmental software), and strong interpersonal, analytical, organizational, and planning skills.
