The General Accountant plays a crucial role in the financial management of an organization. They are responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, preparing financial reports, and ensuring compliance with accounting principles and regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Recordkeeping:

  • Maintain and update accounting records, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger entries, and expense reports.
  • Verify, allocate, post, and reconcile transactions, including bank transactions and credit card statements.
  • Ensure accuracy and completeness of financial data by conducting regular audits and reconciliations.

Financial Reporting:

  • Prepare financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements, on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.
  • Analyze financial data and provide insights into trends, variances, and performance metrics to support decisionmaking processes.
  • Generate financial reports for management, stakeholders, and regulatory authorities as required.

Budgeting and Forecasting:

  • Assist in the preparation of annual budgets and financial forecasts by providing insights into revenue projections, expense trends, and costsaving opportunities.
  • Monitor budgetary performance against targets and provide regular updates to management on budget variances and financial risks.

Tax Compliance:

  • Ensure compliance with tax regulations and reporting requirements, including income tax, VAT/GST, and other applicable taxes.
  • Prepare and file tax returns accurately and timely, and coordinate with external tax advisors or auditors as needed.

Audit and Compliance:

  • Support external auditors during annual audits by providing requested documentation, explanations, and reconciliations.
  • Implement and maintain internal controls to safeguard assets, ensure data integrity, and mitigate financial risks.
  • Stay updated on changes in accounting standards, regulations, and best practices to ensure compliance and mitigate risks.

Financial Analysis:

  • Conduct financial analysis to assess profitability, liquidity, solvency, and efficiency ratios to identify areas for improvement or optimization.
  • Provide insights and recommendations to management based on financial analysis to support strategic decisionmaking and business planning.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. Professional certifications such as CPA, ACCA, or CMA are preferred.
  • Proven experience as an accountant or financial analyst, preferably in a similar industry or organization.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and ERP systems (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP, Oracle).
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fastpaced environment.
  • Knowledge of accounting principles, tax regulations, and financial reporting standards.
