Job Overview:

The Principal Process Engineer performconceptual FEED and detailed analyses and design as per designbasis project specifications design codes and standards. They applyindepth skills and broad knowledge of the business to addresscomplex problems and nonstandard situations. Also prepare clear andaccurate detailed design calculations and analyses including designreports and procedures. They manage own time to meet objectives and(as Lead Engineer) forecast and plan resource requirements andclearly communicate and explain difficult concepts and persuadeothers to adopt a point ofview.

KeyTasks and Responsibilities:

• When acting as LeadEngineer in addition:
  • Direct medium or largeEngineering team as a Lead Engineer
  • Lead theDiscipline engineering design of the assigned work area andcomplete within planned schedule and budget in accordance withstandards MDR and project specific procedures and to a highprofessional standard
  • Plan organize and directall aspects of Discipline execution on the assigned projectincluding scope deliverables schedule and all manpower resourcesagree allocations with the Discipline Manager. Ensure interfacesand deliverables are clearly identified
  • Maintain responsibility for progress andproductivity identifying any required corrective action
  • Act as project representative for theDiscipline during meetings with Project Team Customer disciplinelead and relevant agencies such as certifying authorities auditorsthird parties etc.
• Become fully familiarwith the project scope of work specifications schedule and allinterdiscipline requirements; including identifying concerns asearly as practicable and taking appropriate initiatives to addressthe issues. Interpret contractual requirements as they relate toengineering execution
• Identify changes toscope and promptly raise change notifications including providingany necessary supporting documentation and estimates. Providesimilar support for Variation Orders
• Interfacewith all disciplines to develop clash free designs
• Interface with other departments to obtaininput for Discipline designs and drawings
• Maintain close coordination with otherengineering disciplines Planning and Project Management Team asrequired
• Document substantive communications(communications that result in significant decisions or assignmentof actions) and forward copies to Discipline Lead Engineer andDiscipline Manager
• Prepare estimates for bidproposals including technical query reviews execution statementsand manhour estimates identifying software requirements and anyother projectspecific requirements
• Preparebids and projects Discipline engineering budget and execution plansupdating as required
• Raise technical queriesto obtain missing information clarify work scope and to maintainpreferred McDermott procedures specifications standards practicesand operational requirements
• Prepare reviewand (as Lead Engineer) approve Discipline engineering design basisphilosophies and technical specifications
• Participate in finalizing deliverables listsand deliverables ensuring compliance with specifications andfunctional integrity
• Review project scheduleand fabrication schedule in relation to construction sequencemilestones and engineering scope
• Attendproject kickoff and review meetings vendor meetings engineeringmeetings and offshore site surveys as required
• Provide technical direction and review ofDesigners producing products related to Process Engineering
• Prepare review and (as Lead Engineer) approvedesign reports and procedures
• Assist inproviding necessary design inputs to other disciplines to enablethem in proceeding with their deliverables
• Review and (as Lead Engineer) approve vendorand subcontractor submittals checking for compliance with projectspecifications and providing comments as necessary
• Present issues and problems to Customers in atimely manner and assist Lead Engineer in negotiating resolution inaccordance with project and company requirements
• Guide less experienced engineers on MDR andDiscipline procedures standards worksheets design calculationssoftware requisitions technical bid evaluations technical queriesetc.
• Supervise and guide assigned engineersand coordinate with project Lead Designers for Disciplineengineering and design deliverables.
• Monitorcosts of own work processes
• Responsible forthe engineering integrity of the assigned work area
• Develop communication and presentation skills(e.g. write technical papers participate in conferences and/orseminars present design solutions and/or present topics at lunchand learns; etc.)
• Responsible for checking thefollowing key deliverables applicable as per the Project scope:
  • Process simulations / Heat and materialbalances
  • Process flow diagrams (PFD)
  • Piping and instrument diagrams (P&ID)
  • Equipment and instrument process datasheets
  • Process specifications
  • Operating philosophy and startup and operatingmanuals
  • Equipment list (process data)
  • Line list (process data)
  • Equipment and line sizing calculations
  • Flare radiation and dispersion calculations
  • Depressurization and flare network studies
  • Process studies
• Provide processassistance to other disciplines by performing IDC / providinginputs as required for the following activities:
  • Layout review
  • Areaclassification drawings
  • Safety studies
  • Electrical load list
  • Equipment datasheets
  • Instrument datasheets
  • ESDand F&G logic diagrams and control narrative
• Participate in HAZANHAZID HAZOP and other safety / operability / reliability studiesand workshops
• Assist in close out of HAZOPaction items
• Lead the Discipline team duringproject audits (internal Customer and third party technical audits)and Design Reviews
• When acting as LeadEngineer in addition:
  • Act as projectbasedDiscipline point of contact in communications and meetings withCustomer counterparts
  • Ensure substantivecommunications are documented
  • Identify projectstaff needs based on knowledge of individual engineers skill setsand provide requests to the Discipline manager
  • Plan organize and assign tasksresponsibilities and manhours budgets to the discipline team andverify tasks are completed within budgets
  • PlanDiscipline Level 4 detail deliverable schedule / register compliantwith the overall execution plan
  • Prepareworking forecasts identifying change management plans correctiveaction and realtime schedule
  • ProvideDiscipline inputs for actual planning and forecasting progressreports including associated productivity
  • Alert project team of any deviation from thescope or a need for change order
  • Monitor KPImeasurement results and take corrective action as necessary toimprove Discipline performance including performance at interfaceswith others
  • Coordinate with other DisciplineLead Engineers and Designers to ensure timely receipt of necessarydesign inputs
  • Review and approve requisitionstechnical quotation evaluations and queries compiled bidtabulations and recommendations and purchase requisitions; andcoordinate with Procurement to expedite vendor documents asrequired
  • Review comments from Customers& other agencies on documents and drawings produced by theteam and resolve and give guidance on their update andincorporation
  • Assist Discipline manager in thepreparation of quarterly forecasts and manpower planning
  • Anticipate project engineering needs and planaccordingly
  • Coordinate with vendor fordiscipline managed / procured items
  • AssistDiscipline manager and Project Engineering Manager or ProjectManager in Performance Evaluation of project teammembers

EssentialQualifications and Education:

• 1220 yrs in oil and gaswith major contractor or consultant predominantly performing detaildesign
• Bachelor Degree or Master Degree inEngineering
• Detailed knowledge of designtechniques and analysis methods and detailed knowledge of thetheory content and application of standards codes and guidelines asapplicable. Knowledgeable in project coordination and executionskills
• Preferably Registered ProfessionalEngineer or member of professional engineering society asapplicable
