Toexcel in this role the successful candidate will possess a diverserange of qualities competencies and experiences. The High SchoolEAL teacher should be a dynamic and passionate educator capable ofdelivering engaging and effective instruction to students whoseprimary language is not English. They will play a crucial role insupporting these students to acquire language skills necessary forsuccess in the high school curriculum including internationalprograms such as the IB Diploma and Middle Years Program. The idealcandidate will foster an inclusive and supportive learningenvironment collaborating closely with students colleagues andparents.



Requirements

1.Qualifications and Experience:

1.1Bachelorsdegree in English Language Teaching or a related field.

1.2.Possession of qualified teacher status relevant to the teachingresponsibilities.

1.3Demonstrated experience in teaching within an EAL (English as anAdditional Language)programme.

2.Knowledge andSkills:

2.1Alignment with the schools values of belonging integrity resilienceandkindness.

2.2Strong understanding of EAL pedagogy language acquisition theoriesand culturalcompetency.

2.3Excellent communication skills with proficiency inEnglish.

2.4Capability to differentiate instruction through diverse teachingmethodologies inspiring engagement and challenging learningexperiences tailored to accommodate students of various culturalbackgrounds andabilities.

2.5Familiarity with WIDA Assessment and other assessmenttools

2.6Knowledge of current research on effective teaching and learningstrategies.

2.7Skill in supporting students academic and pastoralneeds.

2.8Familiarity with curriculum design principles and assessmentstrategies.

2.9Ability to collaborate effectively within the schoolcommunity.

2.10Commitment to ongoing professional development.

3.Responsibilities

3.1Implement EAL policies and strategic plans within the high schoolcontext.

3.2Collaborate with school leadership and colleagues to ensureeffective delivery of EALinstruction.

3.3Contribute to the design and implementation of the high schoolcurriculum incorporating EAL support asneeded.

3.4Participate in the development and review of assessment andreporting systems for EALstudents.

3.5Teach EAL courses at the High School level and maintaincomprehensive curriculum documentation for these courses.

3.6.Implement effective inclass and outofclass support strategies tofacilitate differentiation and ensure EAL students access to thecurriculum.

3.7.Assess students for placement into and exit from EAL supportprogrammes.

3.8.Develop review and update individualized learning targets for EALstudents.

3.9.Cultivate a deep understanding of the educational and linguisticbackgrounds of EALstudents.

3.10. Celebrate and affirm the multilingual profiles of studentswhile promoting mother tongue maintenance within the schoolcommunity.

3.11.Collaborate closely with the Student Support Services/Inclusionteam to provide comprehensive support and monitoring for EALstudents especially those with additional academic orsocial/emotionalneeds.

3.12.Actively participate in departmental initiatives connected withStudent SupportServices.

3.13.Share effective EAL support strategies with mainstream teachers whowork with EAL students.

3.14.Collaborate with college counselors curriculum coordinators andadministration to ensure the successful integration of EAL studentsinto the school community and to support their future curricularpathways.


3.15.Stay informed about developments in the field of EAL education andcontribute to ongoing professional development efforts within theschool.

3.16.Teach IB DP English B designing andimplementing a dynamic curriculum that supports languageacquisition fosters cultural understanding and develops criticalthinking and communication skills in a diverse high schoolenvironment.
