  • Provide outpatient consultation services for medical assessments of athletes that after appropriate triage are deemed to have a problem that is not of musculosceletal origin.
  • Provide outpatient consultation services for medical assessments for patients referred by Orthopedic or Sports Medicine Specialists.
  • Provide outpatient consultation services for Aspetar staff for minor medical problems, as required.
  • Undertake preoperative surgical risk assessments on patients due to have surgery at Aspetar
  • Provide emergency medical care and stabilization of inpatients and anyone within the hospital and arrange appropriate transfer to another healthcare facility as required
  • Provide 24 hour in house medical coverage for patients admitted to the ward based on a 24h shift system.
  • Provide 24 hour in house on call coverage for emergency presentations in athletes that have been appropriately triaged and deemed appropriate for Aspetar services.
  • Support Infection Control with preoperative patient screening
  • Provide medical care to inpatients
  • Participate in Aspetar Committees and workgroups as required.
  • Participate in research trials and statistical trending projects as required.
  • Participate in NSMP projects, appropriate to level of knowledge and skill and allowing for time and staffing constraints
  • Assume any other responsibilities as directed by the direct supervisor.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills (oral, written, presentation). Ability to relate well and to build trust and rapport with patients and their family members.
  • Ability to communicate complex medical information to patients and their families in an easytounderstand manner.
  • Personable, approachable, and ability to make others feel comfortable and to put them at ease.
  • Ability to motivate patients towards recovery / full performance and athletic potential.
  • Ability to work well independently as part of a multidisciplinary team
**Necessary knowledge and Experience to be able to do the job: years of hospital experience of which a minimum of 4 years should be in a similar position.

  • Ability to work shifts and demonstrable willingness to be placed on a 24hour roster.

Education and Certification requirements:

  • Medical degree qualification, ideally with specialisation in Internal Medicine, Emergency Medicine, General Practise or equivalent.
  • Certificate in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS, PALS or equivalent).
  • Registered with the relevant medical council
