We are seeking a Phase Leader, equivalent to an Assistant Headteacher position in the UK, who will:

  • Drive academic achievement at Key Stage
  • Lead and support the quality first teaching model to enable all students to make effective progress, including EAL / SEND
  • Narrow academic gaps across key groups including EAL / SEND
  • Have strategic oversight of the Key stage 4 pastoral systems and behavior
  • Lead and deliver the school's development plan and priorities relevant to Key Stage
  • Support and lead effective pedagogy in line with the 'DES Way'
  • Provide critical analysis of the progress, intervention and achievement for all learners across Key Stage
  • Be a reflective practitioner, committed to continued professional growth and development
  • Collaborate with the stakeholders to ensure DES achieves its improvement objectives in pursuit of excellence
  • Work with the Dukhan community to develop good relationships and parent/school partnerships

1. General Information


Dukhan English School (DES) is one of the oldest international schools in the Middle East tracing its origins back to the early 1950s.

DES provides education for the children of QatarEnergy employees who live in Dukhan.

We currently have over 1200 students aged 3 to 18 years with over 100 teachers and support staff at the school, predominantly British trained.


There are five sections to the school:
EYFS, age 3-5 (PreNursery-Reception)

Key Stage 1, age 5-7 (Years 1-2)

Key Stage 2, age 7-11 (Years - 6)

Key Stage 3, age Years 7- 9) Key Stage 4 age Years

Sixth Form, age Years 1- Year 13)

The academic year mirrors the British system of three terms, beginning in September. Local religious and QP holidays are observed. The school week runs from Sunday to Thursday, the weekend being Friday and Saturday.
