As a Senior Backend Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, developing, testing, and maintaining scalable and efficient backend systems using Spring Boot and Kotlin. You will lead by example, mentoring junior engineers, and provide technical guidance to the development team. The ideal candidate should have strong proficiency in the specified technologies, excellent communication skills, and a track record of leading successful projects. Other examples of key activities are:

  • Lead and mentor junior engineers on complex backend projects
  • Provide technical guidance and best practices to the development team
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to analyze technical requirements and design solutions
  • Write unit tests and integrate tests for new features and bug fixes
  • Participate in code reviews and provide feedback on peers' work
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to backend services
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends and best practices
  • Lead and participate in technical discussions and design sessions

Key Performance Indicators:

Backend Development:

  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable and efficient backend systems using Spring Boot and Kotlin.
  • Implement RESTful APIs, database schemas, and other backend functionalities to support application requirements.
  • Ensure the reliability, security, and performance of backend services.

Technical Expertise:

  • Demonstrate strong proficiency in Spring Boot and Kotlin, staying updated with the latest features and best practices.
  • Utilize design patterns and architectural principles to build robust and maintainable backend solutions.
  • Optimize backend processes for performance and scalability.

Testing and Quality Assurance:

  • Write unit tests, integration tests, and automated test suites to validate the functionality and reliability of backend components.
  • Conduct code reviews and ensure adherence to coding standards and best practices.
  • Collaborate with QA engineers to identify and address bugs and issues.

Leadership and Mentoring:

  • Lead by example in terms of code quality, productivity, and professionalism.
  • Mentor and guide junior engineers, providing technical support and fostering their professional growth.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders to align backend development efforts with overall project goals.

Technical Guidance:

  • Provide technical guidance and insights to the development team, helping them solve complex problems and make informed decisions.
  • Act as a subject matter expert on backend technologies, sharing knowledge and best practices with the team.
  • Participate in architectural discussions and contribute to the evolution of backend systems.

Communication and Collaboration:

  • Communicate effectively with team members, stakeholders, and other departments to understand requirements and priorities.
  • Participate in sprint planning, stand-ups, and other Agile ceremonies to coordinate backend development efforts.
  • Foster a collaborative and inclusive work environment where ideas and feedback are valued.

Project Leadership:

  • Lead backend development efforts for assigned projects, ensuring timely delivery and high-quality results.
  • Collaborate with project managers to define project scope, timelines, and deliverables.
  • Proactively identify and address risks and dependencies that may impact project success

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field
  • At least 5 years of experience as a Backend Engineer, preferably with leadership experience
  • Strong proficiency in Spring Boot and Kotlin programming languages
  • Experience with version control systems such as Git
  • Excellent understanding of technical analysis and debugging techniques
  • Strong testing skills (unit tests, integration tests)
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • Proven track record of leading successful projects and mentoring junior engineers
  • Background in Agile development methodologies
  • Experience with FinTech or financial industry-related technologies
  • Knowledge of database management systems such as MySQL or PostgreSQL
  • Familiarity with containerization (Docker) and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure)
  • Certification in a relevant technology or programming language
