Primary Objective

To ensure that mechanical design integrity is not compromised while managing the mechanical engineering department in the execution of the project.

Specific Accountabilities
  1. Overall supervision of the mechanical team.
  2. Technical competence of Mechanical engineering personnel.
  3. Technical competency in rotating and static equipment.
  4. Forecast requirement for Mechanical engineering resources and allocate those resources.
  5. Mechanical design integrity of workscope and maintenance of standards.
  6. Identify instrument/electrical software necessary to enable mechanical group to function effectively.
  7. Aware of latest technology including the latest mechanical tool and software.
  8. Inter-discipline communication development.
  9. Mechanical group communication development.
  10. Prepare mechanical manhour estimate to perform project tasks.
  11. Check compliance with Alliance QA/safety/environment goals.
  12. Promote Alliance culture in instrument/electrical engineering group.
  13. Manage mechanical design and any design changes within budget and schedule.
  14. Evaluate new technology advancements against existing design standards and revise where applicable.
  15. Promote cost reduction and productivity enhancing initiatives.
  16. Promote career development within the group.
  17. Identify and review new technology development which could be applicable in providing more cost-effective facilities.
  18. Technical supervision of project designated mechanical engineers in the execution of their duty.
  19. Prepare weekly mechanical progress and expenditure reports on a project-specific basis.
  20. Benchmark mechanical design and identify areas of improvement.
  21. Mentoring the mechanical engineers in the department.
  22. Multi-discipline technical coordination and interaction.
  23. Consistently completes work within budgeted hours.
  24. Proactive in transferring skills and sharing knowledge.
  25. Competently prepares proposals and reports.
  26. Contributes to technology selection studies, process simplification, customized standards, value engineering constructability review, 3D CAD review and cost estimates.
  27. Quality Assurance – Responsible for working within the provisions and guidelines of the Quality Assurance system relevant to the BU.
  28. Safety – Responsible for personal safety and safe working practices for the BU. Understand and follow OH&S procedures.
Essential Skills/Experience
  1. Experience with the development of layouts for new facilities.
  2. Experienced in the specification, evaluation and documentation of equipment.
  3. Work is performed in accordance with broad technical guidelines and with minimal supervision.
  4. Ability to work to tight deadlines and prioritization of work to achieve them.
  5. Vast experience with design of pumps, compressors and process equipment (Experience in turbines will be an asset).
  6. Experience in brown fields & asset services type project/contracts.
  7. Experience with interface between MTOs and procurement system.
  8. Experience with tender package preparation.
  9. Experience in Installation, Construction and Commissioning.
  10. Understand key equipment fabrication and maintenance requirements.
  11. Experience in process plant layout.
Industry Specific Experience
  1. Extensive work experience at a senior level within the Oil & Gas industry.
  2. Minimum 15 years design experience within the oil and gas industry, with last 5 years at least, leading a team of mechanical discipline engineers and designers.
  3. Extensive technical, practical and leadership experience in the mechanical discipline in the same or similar industry, including experience managing and leading multi-disciplinary projects and teams.
Education – Qualifications, Accreditation, Training
  1. Full-Time Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university.
  2. MME (Ministry of Municipality and Environment) engineering accreditation is a mandatory requirement. Candidates not holding this accreditation must be willing to achieve this within the probationary period.
  3. Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) status or undertaking the same will be an advantage.
