Nurse Educator

Job Purpose:
The Nurse Educator uses the educational design process to bridge the knowledge, skills, and/or practice gaps identified through needs assessment. As a mentor to clinical nurses and other clinicians, the nurse educator advances the nursing profession by contributing to the professional development of others, influencing interprofessional practice and learning environments, and healthcare. The Nurse Educator is a champion for scientific inquiry, promoting the generation and dissemination of new knowledge and the use of evidence to guide clinical practice, and improve patient care.
The Nurse Educator works in collaboration with nurse managers to analyze data and trends to identify educational needs, and uses principles of adult learning to design educational content for clinical areas/service lines.
Main Tasks and Responsibilities:- Develops, implements, and evaluates educational activities and content to address practice gaps for clinical nurses as well as non-licensed MMCH staff.
- Conducts annual learning needs assessments for all staff and works with nurse managers to align with area needs. Coordinates the implementation of an educational plan within a department including activities and resources necessary to achieve desired outcomes.
- Implements and coordinates an individualized program to guide the new hire towards job competency; occurs during onboarding and when changes in roles, responsibilities, and practice settings occur.
- Develops a plan for individualized staff assessments when indicated, to assess compliance and education gaps.
- Develops a competency-based assessment framework for clinical nurses, and maintains electronic staff education and training records. Proficient in Microsoft Office programs.
- Supports others in their professional role development, practice role transitions, and succession planning. Involves identification and development of strategies to facilitate a continuous process of maturation through lifelong learning.
- Utilizes quality improvement processes to promote research, evidence-based practice (EBP), and quality improvement (QI) in patient care settings. Utilizes EBP and best-practice resources to inform policy, procedure, and standards of care as required.
- Performs other duties as assigned, including redeployment to direct patient care when needed.
- Collaborates to problem solve and make decisions to achieve desired outcomes.
- Establish effective working relationships with cross-functional team(s).
- Shares knowledge, time, and expertise to assist other members of the team.
- Cultivates and maintains strong customer relationships and rapport with stakeholders and/or client groups.
- Ensures practices and procedures are inclusive of interpersonal and cultural diversity.
- Identifies and responds appropriately to both internal and external customer needs utilizing available resources.
- Bachelors Degree in nursing.
- Masters degree in nursing or other Health-related discipline.
- Formal credential in nursing education (certification).
- Proficiency in English, with strong verbal and written communication skills. Arabic is considered an asset.
- Minimum 8 years required.
- Minimum of 8 years nursing experience in an acute care hospital setting. Experience in a tertiary academic hospital is preferred.
- 3 years as a clinical instructor/clinical nurse educator/clinical resource nurse or similar is required.
