The College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHSS) invites applications for an Associate Professor faculty position in the Women, Society and Development Program with a specialization in Women's and Family Studies and a disciplinary background in anthropology, sociology, history, political economy, art and literature, or other related social science and humanities fields in the Middle Eastern context. Successful applicants will work closely with our established college programs and develop academic and research collaborations with potential national, regional, and international partners.

Job Role Description

  • Teach graduate courses at the MA level and contribute to curriculum development in their area(s) of specialty.
  • Supervise MA and Ph.D. students, supporting their academic and research progress.
  • Commit to research-based teaching and learning methodologies.
  • Integrate experiential learning into classroom activities to enhance student engagement.
  • Encourage students to develop analytical skills for critical thinking and reflection.
  • Maintain an active research agenda by applying for internal and external research grants.
  • Participate in departmental and college-wide initiatives to support academic and research excellence.
  • Demonstrate a strong international record of peer-reviewed publications and funding/grant acquisitions.

Minimum Requirements

  • Ph.D. or terminal degree from an accredited university as required for teaching in fields relating to Women's and Family Studies.
  • 6-8 years of relevant full-time university teaching experience in research, higher education, or closely related areas in the industry (additional experience may be required to show equivalency), with evidence of increasing professional maturity and productivity.
  • Good evidence of proficiency in teaching, student supervision, and curriculum and program development.
  • Research and scholarly achievements are deemed competent and adequate for the rank of Associate Professor compared to peers active in the same field at major research universities.
  • Good evidence of participation in the scholarly and academic affairs of a university or other appropriate organization or in an appropriate professional society or organization.
  • Growing portfolio of scholarly endeavors (funded research grants, publications, IP/patents, etc.) in comparison with peers active in the same field at a major research university.
  • Good evidence of an increasing regional and international reputation in the scholarly discipline.
  • Ability to work with and include diverse groups, cultures, and communities.
  • Participate in developing networks and collaboration within HBKU and with program partners and branch campuses in both teaching and research activities.
  • Knowledge of the region and competency in the Arabic language are desirable.
