Job Summary

A consultant neurologist is a senior neurologist in the position to assess, diagnose and treat a wide range of neurological conditions.

A consultant neurologist will be able to treat a range of conditions including demyelinating diseases such as multiple sclerosis and cerebrovascular diseases including stroke.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Diagnosing complex medical problems by referring to a patient's history, examining them, and conducting neurological tests.
  2. Counseling patients on neurological disorders and their backgrounds.
  3. Ordering neurological tests and interpreting the results of neuroimaging studies.
  4. Prescribing and/or administering treatment and medication.
  5. Monitoring the behavioral and cognitive side effects of treatment and medication.
  6. Ordering supportive care services for patients.
  7. Liaising with medical professionals in the community and hospitals.
  8. Keeping up-to-date with neurological developments, treatments, and medication.
  9. Performing specialized treatments such as sleep disorders, neuroimmunology, neuro-oncology, behavioral neurology, and neurogenetics.
  10. Performing and interpreting lumbar punctures, electroencephalography, electromyography, and nerve conduction velocity tests.
  11. Treating acute conditions, i.e. those that come on suddenly, such as a stroke.
  12. Offering specialist expertise and guidance to other doctors and staff from a range of medical specialties.
  13. Liaising with other medical and non-medical staff in hospital settings to ensure all of the patient's needs are met.
  14. Monitoring patients' conditions and progress, and re-evaluating treatments as necessary.
  15. Providing health and wellness advice to patients, including diet, physical activity, hygiene, and disease prevention.
  16. Maintaining detailed notes of appointments with patients, including comments, tests, and/or treatments prescribed, and test results.
  17. Referring patients to other medical specialists when necessary.
  18. Providing support and advice to patients receiving long-term care.
  19. Conducting research into the testing and development of new medications, methods of treatment, or procedures to prevent or control illness, disease, etc.
  20. Conducting rounds and undertaking supervision of treatment of inpatients as well as screening and examination of outpatients.
  21. Participating in various committees for upgrading services and organization of work within and outside the hospital.
  22. Participating in the planning and implementation of the department development plans and the different manpower training programs for the medical, technical, and nursing staff.
  23. Collaborating with other physicians and nurses to form a high-performing medical team.
  24. Cultivating a climate of trust and compassion for patients.
  25. Remaining up-to-speed with developments and best practices in medicine by attending conferences and seminars.
  26. Complying with patient rights & responsibilities.
  27. Educating patients & families in the care plan process.
  28. Maintaining patient diagnostic reports in electronic format.
  29. Following international standards such as Lancet / Up to Date and conducting ethical medical practice.
  30. Assuring quality and safe service for patients and staff by enforcing policies, procedures, standards, rules, and legal regulations.
  31. Maintaining historical records by documenting symptoms, medications, and treatment events and writing summaries.
  32. Any other task as assigned by management on a time-to-time basis as per the organization's needs.

Job Experience

Minimum 10 Years of Experience post-Board

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Doctor of Medicine
  • Preferably Western Board in Neurology
