Overview

Under the general direction of the CDC Lead and CDC Supervisor, the Child Youth Services Program Associate maintains control of and accounts for whereabouts and safety of children and youth. Assists in planning, coordinating, and conducting activities for program participants based on observed needs of individual children and youth ranging in age from 6 weeks to 18 years. Assists with the implementation of activities and special events that meet the physical, social, emotional, and cognitive needs of children and youth. Helps to establish a program environment that sustains participant interest and promotes positive interactions with other children, youth, and adults. Helps prepare, arrange, and maintain indoor and outdoor activity areas and materials to accommodate daily schedules. Assists in preparing and implementing program options for children and youth with special requirements.

Responsibilities
  1. Interacts with children and youth using approved child guidance and youth development techniques.
  2. Encourages participant interest and establishes a program setting that promotes positive interactions with other children, youth, and adults.
  3. Assists with the planning and conducting of activities for program participants based on the needs of individual children and youth.
  4. Uses prepared curriculum and program materials and assists with developing a list of needed supplies and equipment.
  5. Assists with the creation of adult-made games and play materials (mixing paint and play dough and assembling props for dramatic plays, activities, etc.) and assists with developing a list of needed supplies and equipment for submission to the CDC lead.
  6. Assists the leads and supervisors to implement activities and special events that meet the physical, social, emotional, and cognitive needs of children and youth.
  7. Assists the team members to prepare, arrange, and maintain indoor and outdoor activity areas and materials to accommodate daily schedules.
  8. Promotes and models safety, fitness, health, and nutrition practices.
  9. Cares for special needs children and youth as directed by the lead.
  10. Assists children and youth with special projects, homework, and life skills.
  11. Interacts professionally with staff members, parents, and local installation command personnel.
  12. Notes special instructions provided by parents.
  13. Ensures children and youth (as applicable) depart with authorized person according to written parental instructions.
  14. Notifies supervisor on health, fire, and safety compliance concerns.
  15. Provides care, oversight, and accountability for program participants in compliance with DoD/Dos and local policies, guidance, and standards.
  16. Observes program participants for signs that may indicate illness, abuse, or neglect and reports as directed.
  17. Maintains displays and bulletin boards.
  18. Inventories equipment on a recurring basis and recommends replenishing damaged, missing, and depleted supplies.
  19. Collects, maintains, and reports program participation data.
  20. Ensures assigned area achieves and maintains standards for DoD certification and national accreditation or equivalent.
  21. Provides care and supervision to children and youth ranging in age from 6 weeks to 18 years.
  22. Ensures compliance with law, policies, and regulations applicable to DoD/DoS programs.
  23. Records and reports all accidents and incident involving children to the Program Director.
  24. Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  1. Minimum Qualifications: Education/Certifications: One year related experience may be substituted for one year of education, if degree is required.
  2. Must have high school diploma.
  3. Preferred Experience:
  4. Experience working in a group program with children or youth highly preferred.
  5. Skills:
  6. Able to professionally interact with all levels of employees and participants, as well as parents, volunteers, and school personnel.
  7. Knowledge/demonstrated skill in working with Microsoft Windows and Windows applications.
  8. Able to read, write, and communicate in English at a satisfactory level.
  9. Enjoys working with children and youth.
  10. Child Care National Agency Check (CNACI) is required, obtained during hiring process.
  11. Working Conditions:
  12. Must be capable of working in extreme weather conditions with temperatures exceeding 120 degrees Fahrenheit.
  13. Indoor and/or outdoor environment with very adverse and harsh conditions (i.e., hot, wet, tropical environment with average temperatures of 130 degrees in the summer months).
  14. Includes some industrial production environment conditions as well.
  15. The worker is subject to both environmental conditions. Activities occur inside and outside.
  16. Physical Requirements:
  17. Medium work. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  18. Work may require heavy lifting, stooping, climbing, prolonged standing, prolonged sitting, and working with or in areas where a potential could exist for exposure to physical, chemical, or biological agents.
  19. Employee use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required for some situations. PPE includes, but is not limited to, head, foot, torso, respiratory, vision, and hearing protective devices.
  20. Must comply with all Fire and Safety Regulations and post policies.
