The College of Health Sciences invites applications for Midwifery faculty.

Your Commitment

Reporting to the Department Head, the successful candidate will be responsible for the development, delivery and evaluation of a broad range of courses within the midwifery domain. S/he will evaluate student progress and manage the resources of the learning environment. The successful candidate will liaise with industry and other educational institutions; participate in industry advisory committees and coordinate, manage and control projects within the specified program area. Faculty members will keep course portfolio documents required for accreditation processes and engage in instructional development/improvement plans. All employees are expected to contribute to professional and community life within the University and beyond.

Education And Experience Requirements

Faculty members will be placed in the appropriate rank based on their education and experience. The broad criteria are noted below.

Qualifications

For Assistant and Associate Professor:

Education

1. A PhD or Doctorate in Midwifery or in a related health field. Those whose PhD or Doctorate is not in midwifery must hold an undergraduate or graduate degree in midwifery.
2. All candidates must hold registration as a registered midwife and be in good standing with the regulatory body.

Experience

1. Demonstrated record of academic experience and midwifery practice.
2. Experience in teaching midwifery at a post-secondary institution.
3. A minimum of five (5) years full-time equivalent recent clinical practice experience.
4. Demonstrated ability to use diverse and current teaching approaches in the classroom and for practice experiences including the laboratory, simulation, and practicums.
5. Demonstrated ability to use a variety of educational technology and platforms.
6. Demonstrated academic and information literacy skills.
7. Consideration will be given to candidates who have: mentored/preceptored midwifery students during practice practicums; and/or, a minimum of eight (8) years full-time equivalent of clinical midwifery experience.

Scholarship and Research

1. Demonstrated accomplishment in advancement or contributions to health-related knowledge through applied research and publication and knowledge dissemination.
2. Preference given to candidates with demonstrated contribution to curriculum development and to teaching and learning.

For Senior Lecturer and Lecturer

Education

1. A Master's in Midwifery or in a related health field. For those whose Master's is not in midwifery, they must hold an undergraduate degree in midwifery.
2. All candidates must hold registration as a registered midwife and be in good standing with the regulatory body.

Experience

1. A minimum of five (5) years full-time equivalent recent clinical practice experience.
2. Experience in teaching midwifery at a post-secondary institution.
3. Demonstrated ability to use diverse and current teaching approaches in the classroom and for practice experiences including the laboratory, simulation, and practicums.
4. Demonstrated ability to use a variety of educational technology and platforms.

Scholarship and Research

1. Demonstrated performance in scholarship that contributes to the advancement of midwifery practice; advancement of health-related knowledge; and/or, health-related curriculum development and pedagogy.

Other required skills

1. Commitment to applied and experiential learning as a pedagogy and a key feature of UDST's mandate.
2. Ability to design, develop, deliver, and evaluate authentic learning experiences and assessments incorporating contemporary tools and resources to maximize content learning in context and to develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes identified in program outcomes.
3. Digital literacy and demonstrated fluency in technology systems, and an ability to model and facilitate use of current and emerging digital tools to support research and learning.
4. Demonstrated ability to develop technology-enriched learning environments that enable students to be active participants in their own learning.
5. Commitment to the effectiveness, vitality, and self-renewal of the teaching profession through self-driven continuous professional development and life-long learning.
