  • Planning for instruction at theyearly, unit, weekly, and/or daily level implementingschool-mandated programs, strategies of instruction, and assessmentto work with students to achieve the Learning Standards of theBritish Columbia Canada Ministry of EducationCurriculum
  • Using effective teaching strategies,learning, and professional resources available for the grade tosupport instruction within curriculum guidelines and with the useof school-mandated instructional frameworks and programs to createopportunities for differentiated learning for students withdifferent skill levels or learningstyles
  • Providing enrichment events andactivities including but not limited to field trips, showcases,concerts, plays, and productions. Events may be organized at aclass level and/or a school-widelevel
  • Communicating assignments and objectivesto students in a well-organized manner, using clear and preciselanguage
  • Sending homework assignments that arean extension of clearly defined school activities, appropriate tothe age, ability, and independence level of students, to provideopportunities for students to enrich, apply, and review lessons andpractice skills they have learned, including open-ended studentactivities
  • Diagnosing, instructing, andevaluating the specific needs of students who are struggling tomeet grade expectations and seeking assistance as necessary fromthe School Support Program
  • Using As Learningand For Learning Assessments to monitor student progress to planinstruction and provide feedback regularly to students, theirparents, and the school administration
  • Activelyengage in discussions and planning that take place at the GradeLevel Team level and within Teams across different grade levels, toenhance consistency of practice and studentachievement
  • Preparing formal report cards andengaging in parent conferences according to the setdates
  • Establishing and maintaining fair andjust standards for student behavior, with the guidance of theschool Code of Conduct, to create an effective and safe learningenvironment
  • Supervising students in theclassroom, on the school campus, and off-campus at school-relatedactivities
  • Guiding, motivating, and supervisingthe classroom assistant, if one is assigned to the class you areteaching
  • Maintaining accurate, complete, andlegible records as required by the schoolpolicy
  • Attending and taking an active role instaff meetings including those focused on analyzing studentassessment and data for growthplanning
  • Communicating concerns, ideas, andinformation with colleagues, students, the school administration,parents, and the community in a professional and constructivemanner
  • Maintaining a positive professionalrelationship with parents for the benefit of their children,including but not limited to informing them of upcoming-week lessonsummaries, behavioral issues, and their children’sprogress
  • Displaying a willingness to understandthe local culture and handle the cultural nuances in a caring andrespectful manner
  • Participating in professionaldevelopment organized by the school
  • AttendSaturday school, not to exceed eight sessions for the schoolyear
  • Working hours: The official working hoursare from 6:30 am to 2:20 pm. All classes start at 7:00 am. Exceptfor K2, BC Program classes end at 2:00 pm. K2 classes end at 1:10pm. Classroom teachers are expected to stay with their childrenuntil they are picked up, which normally is between 20 - 30 minutesafter the end of classes. The first bus ride to schoolaccommodation is at 2:30 pm. Therefore, teachers who are residingin the school accommodation and are using the school bus are at theschool from 6:30 am until 2:30 pm.
  • After-schoolcollaboration meetings are conducted once a week from 2:30 pm to3:30 pm where attendance is required.
  • Meetingswith parents of at-risk students would take place after theofficial working hours asneeded.
