Here are some specific responsibilities of a bolt tightening technician:

- Reviewing Technical Specifications: Bolt tightening technicians must review technical specifications, blueprints, or engineering drawings to determine the correct bolt size, torque values, and tightening sequence.
- Selecting and Preparing Tools: They must select the right tools and equipment for the job, such as torque wrenches, hydraulic tensioners, or stud tensioners. They also must ensure that the tools are clean, calibrated, and properly maintained.
- Preparing the Work Area: The technician must prepare the work area by cleaning the surface, ensuring accessibility to the bolt, and providing proper lighting.
- Measuring and Torquing Bolts: They must measure and torque bolts to the specified torque value or tension level, using the appropriate tool and technique. They should be familiar with the different types of bolts and the best torque values to use with each type.
- Inspecting Bolts: They must visually inspect the bolts, threads, and other components for damage, wear, or signs of stress. They should also perform non-destructive testing, such as ultrasonic or magnetic particle inspection, to detect any hidden defects.
- Documenting the Work: They must maintain accurate records of the bolts that they tighten, the torque values used, and any inspections or repairs performed. They should also report any problems or issues that they encounter to their supervisor.
