The Director of Human Resources, Qatar, is responsible for the leadership of the Human Resources department at Northwestern University in Qatar (NU-Q), in alignment with the mission and strategic initiatives of the school and compliance with the university’s policies and federal, state, and local laws. A member of the senior leadership team, the director, works closely with other senior leadership team members to support a culture of engagement, accountability, and diversity.

NU-Q is a globally embedded institution: it is one of three campuses of Northwestern University (Chicago, Doha, Evanston) and one of several institutions in the Qatar Foundation’s Education City in Doha, Qatar. The Director of Human Resources reports to the Associate Dean for Administration and Chief Operations Officer.

**Responsibilities**:

- Oversee staff recruitment and hiring process in Qatar.
- Oversee the process of expatriation to and repatriation from Qatar for all employees.
- Oversee the Performance Excellence process for all staff, including training and advising goal setting and performance evaluation.
- Advise managers on employee and labor relations; ensure that employee counseling and disciplinary systems are fair, consistent, and aligned with the university policies; act both advocate and mediator for faculty and staff.
- Oversee the administration of all employee compensation and benefits, including Qatar-based benefits.
- In collaboration with the Qatar Foundation, oversee all the immigration processes for all employees and visitors affiliated with NU-Q, including but not limited to acquiring visas, blood typing, medical health screening, fingerprinting, and obtaining residence permits.
- In collaboration with the university’s WELL (Well-being, Engagement, Learning &Leadership) team, develop and implement effective programs for mentoring, professional development, and work-related training for staff employees.
- Provide direction and support for local legal proceedings and emergency requests from employees and their dependents.
- Develop a competent, productive, effective, and cohesive human resource team that fosters a collaborative and service-oriented approach.
- Other duties as assigned.

**Minimum Qualifications**:

- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or related field
- A minimum of 10 years of progressive human resources experience

**Minimum Competencies**:

- Proven ability to develop and work with teams, including collaborating and maintaining effective relationships with all levels of the school’s administration, departments, and employees
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills
- Extensive knowledge and expertise in federal/state employment law and regulations
- Absolute discretion in handling confidential information
- Ability to quickly analyze, evaluate, and prioritize problems and issues and develop workable solutions
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and prioritize work and fulfil responsibilities with mínimal direction
- Effective interpersonal skills with the demonstrated ability to build consensus

**Preferred Qualifications**:

- A Master’s degree in a related field preferred
- SHRM certification and/or human resource experience in higher education is a plus
- Human resource experience in an international setting is a plus
