Our client is looking for a HV Operation Technician to join their operations in Qatar.

**Job Objectives**:
Responsible to ensure safe and reliable operation of the company smelter High Voltage Distribution network and High Current Rectifier systems from the Central Control Room.
- Monitor and operate High Current ABB Rectifier systems to ensure uninterrupted DC Power to the Smelter Electrolysis process. Maintain effective communications between Power plant and Smelter Operation teams to ensure smooth Rectifier operations.
- Monitor and operate High Voltage Smelter auxiliary power distribution to 19 HV substations and associated end users. Maintain effective communications between HV Distribution team and various end users (eg. Reductions, Casthouse, Carbon plant and Utilities) to ensure uninterrupted Power distribution.
- Monitor Smelter auxiliary and Utility systems such as Compressed Air, Seawater pumps, Process and Potable water systems, UPS and HVAC systems. Highlight and coordinate potential operational issues with relevant stakeholders.
- Respond to Power system alarms, emergencies and outages ensuring prompt actions are taken to restore power safely. Coordinate with maintenance teams to assist in troubleshooting and minimize downtime.
- Work with the company's work permit/LOTO system to ensure safety from the system during all works performed in the company.
- Ensure the safe and reliable operation of the High Current Rectifier systems & HV Distribution system.
- Follow of all relevant operational procedures and instructions so that work is carried out in a controlled and consistent manner.
- Generate or assist in generation of any departmental reports are prepared as per management request, in a timely and accurate manner to meet company and department requirements governing reporting.
- Maintain accurate records of events, alarms and actions taken during the shift and logs of operational parameters.
- Comply with all agreed occupational health, safety and environmental regulations in order to protect personnel and physical assets. Ensure that the work areas are kept in a clean and tidy state in order that work can be carried out safely and effectively.
- Comply with High Voltage safety rules and best practices in Power distribution operations. Identify and report potential safety hazards and violations.
- Provide input and recommend the continuous improvement of the company practices taking into account ‘international best practice’, changes in international standards and changes in the business environment which demand proactive action plans.
- Continuous review of current Standard Operating Procedures to ensure alignment with best practices and contribute to development and improvement of procedures.
- Minimum Qualification Required
- HV Technical/Trade Qualification

**Required experience**
- 4-6 years experience with high voltage distribution equipment with well developed operational skills on a variety of HV electrical equipment including High Voltage Electrical distribution networks, Power transformers, Switchgear and SCADA systems
- Aluminium industry and/or International work experience would be an advantage
