The Barista and Waiter contributes to MCLAREN Cafe success by always providing exceptional customer service to all customers/guests. This job creates the McLaren Cafe Experience for our customers/guests by providing customers with prompt service, quality beverages & products, and by maintaining a clean and comfortable store environment. The incumbent is responsible for modelling and acting in accordance with our available specialty coffee preparation standards, Brand Strategy, House Rules, and Mclaren Cafe Operational Forms & Procedures. He/she is above all responsible for following and maintaining the highest safe work practices, Waiters/Barista are responsible for coordinating customers’ food and beverage orders with kitchen and bartending staff. - Previous experience as a Barista in a coffee shop or restaurant
- Ability to make sweets, pastries and sandwiches
- Discovers and responds to customer needs.
- Maintains a calm demeanor during periods of high volume or unusual events to maintain operating standards, and to set a positive example for the Shift team.
- Anticipates customer and store needs by constantly evaluating environment and customers for queues.
- Provides quality beverages, whole beans, and food products consistently for all customers by adhering to all recipes and presentation standards.
- Follows Health, Safety and Sanitation guidelines for all products.
- Follows daily objectives to ensure Store is clean, stock is rotated and merchandised according to Company Policy and Procedures.
- Maintains a clean well-merchandised store, following visual presentation plans and standards.
- Maintains a clean and organized workspace so that colleagues can locate resources and products as needed.
- Contributes to positive team environment by recognizing change in colleague behavior that might signal potential problems or changes in colleague morale and performance, and communicates the changes to the store management.
- Ensures cash handling and Loss Prevention Policies and Company Procedures are followed at all times.
- Follows Mclaren Cafe’s Operational Forms, Procedures, & Policies, including those for
- Cash Handling and Safety & Security, to ensure the safety of all colleagues during each shift.
- Coordinates and manages any event or collaboration work inside and outside the coffee shop.
- Researches emerging innovative products; anticipates buyer interest; negotiates volume price breaks; places and expedites orders; and verifies receipt within own scope of work in specialty coffee.
- Identifies and establishes internal and external stakeholder relationships.
- Looks for collaboration opportunities with external stakeholders in the areas of specialty coffee knowledge and training.
- Manages costs and quality controls of specialty coffee and drink supplies.
- Ensures profitability of the store by growing coffee and drinks sales and controlling costs of goods, inventory levels, labor, supplies and expenses.
- Attracts customers by originating display ideas of specialty coffee products and drinks, and by demonstrating/preparing products to customers.
- Helps customers by providing specialty coffee information; answering questions; obtaining products requested; completing payment transactions; preparing products for delivery.
- Maintains a clean well-merchandised store, following visual presentation plans and standards.
- Promotes and practices safe work habits, identifying and resolving potential safety hazards, operational inconsistencies and any team member or customer incidents.
- Documents accidents, conducts initial investigation and determination of root cause in the interest of maintaining a safe work environment.
- Participates in conducting monthly safety meetings ensuring team member compliance in all safety initiatives.
