Ashghal Chair in The Area of Usage of Recycled

**Position Summary**

The Department of Civil and Architectural Engineering is inviting applicants for the newly established Ashghal Chair in the area of usage of Recycled Materials in Infrastructure Projects. The chair position is one of the key elements in the strong collaboration between Qatar University and the Public Works Authority (Ashghal), the government body responsible for the planning, design, procurement, construction, delivery, and asset management of all infrastructure projects and public buildings in Qatar. The aim of the chair position is to support the sustainability agenda in infrastructure projects. This covers the usage of recycled materials in pavements and roads as a primary area, in addition to the usage of recycled materials for other infrastructure projects. The scope of chair position covers Ashghal's projects of all kinds by bringing the best technical practices and usage of recycled materials in Ashghal's projects. The appointed chair will be responsible for developing a research program that investigates the suitability and performance (short term and long term) of roads and highways constructed using materials sourced locally in Qatar. He/she will also be developing tools for asset management and techniques for prioritization of maintenance activities based on prediction models of roads' degradation. He/she will be investigating the usage of recycled materials and the development of greener pavement in Qatar and developing performance-based evaluation for roads in Qatar. The position has the following requirements:

- A strong industrial experience or strong interaction with the industry is required.

**Qualifications**:
Successful applicants should be able to:
1. Be able to adopt and develop a (student centered) approach to teaching and learning,
2. Teach undergraduate and postgraduate courses in related Civil Engineering disciplines.
3. Develop expertise in using course management environments such as Blackboard to support taught courses and assessment,
4. Contribute to collaborative research, consulting and short courses in conjunction with local industries,
5. Contribute to a collegiate atmosphere in the Department and College, and
6. Advise undergraduate students and be involved effectively in service duties such as capstone project reviews, design juries, committee work and curriculum development.
