ISP Swimming Coach Role Profile

Purpose of Role

The swimming coach's responsibilities include analyzing swim techniques and determining skill levels, developing individualized swimming programs, educating swimmers on various techniques and styles, and overseeing training. You should also recruit new talent and prepare swimmers for meets.

ISP Swimming Coach Key Responsibilities

- To ensure that each child makes the maximum possible progress, feels safe and enjoys their time at school.

- To have a clear understanding of the needs of all students, including those with SEND and EAL and to use distinctive teaching approaches to extend and support all children.
- To take an active role in the co-curricular and extra-curricular programmes.
- To be dedicated to pastoral care.
- To contribute to the effective and efficient running of the swim programme and PE Department
- To follow all agreed school policies.
- To contribute positively to the ethos of the school.
- To attend meetings and school events, which may take place in the evenings or weekends as required.
- To undertake peer observations.
- To do any reasonable duties as requested by the school.

**Teaching & Learning**:

- To support the planning and preparation of well-structured lessons to engage, inspire and extend each student in the class.
- To ensure that your teaching space is a positive and exciting place by using positive behaviour management.
- To be responsible and accountable for the progress of each student in your class.
- To ensure that students reflect on their work and progress and set themselves targets to improve.
- To be knowledgeable and interested in the areas you teach and to keep up to date with initiatives.
- To regularly assess, record and monitor the progress of all students according to the school’s policy to provide accurate information to parents in a variety of forms, as and when necessary.
- To teach an engaging curriculum to promote swimming from the early years upwards, including relevant plans.

**Role Specific**:

- To assist the PE Subject Leader in developing the curriculum for swimming throughout the school in line with the Hamilton Standards and Objectives
- To assist with the delivery of lesson other than swimming when required.
- To help in setting up house sport and whole-school sports.
- To coach colleagues in swimming if necessary.
- To help to set up a programme for elite swimmers.
- To help organise sporting fixtures, tournaments, and membership into local sporting competitions

**Qualifications and Experience**:

- High school diploma or GED certificate
- Swimming coach certification
- First Aid at Work qualification essential
- Experience of working in a sports/leisure environment desirable
- Sports coaching qualification/s desirable
- Experience of working in HR in a school
- Excellent communication and people skills at all levels
- Health and Safety Awareness
- Energetic and enthusiastic
