Deployed Linguist: Malayalam

**Description**:
Perform accurate, complete, and timely transcription, translation, and interpretation from a variety of sources.

Provide translations of aural, videotape, and/or other sources from one language into another language, with the meaning and intent of the original source preserved. Services will include transcription of aural sources in a Specified Contract Required Language(s) (SCRL) by technically qualified and experienced translators at the level of competency required. Unless otherwise proscribed, transcribers will (1) listen or view the material and comprehend the SCRL language, (2) write comprehensibly in English and/or an SCRL language(s), and (3) choose the equivalent expression in English that both fully conveys and best matches the meaning intended in the SCRL language.

Provide written translations of source texts in one language into another language, as identified above, with the meaning and intent of the original text (Translation). Services will include translation of documentation by technically qualified and experienced translators at the level of competency required. Unless otherwise proscribed, translators will (1) read and comprehend the SCRL language, (2) write comprehensibly in one of the source SCRL languages, and (3) choose the equivalent expression into the required SCRL language that both fully conveys and best matches the meaning intended in the source SCRL language (referred to as congruity judgment).

**Requirements**:

- **Have a minimum IRL level 3 proficiency in all duty position SCRL(s) including spoken and written**. Must be able to comprehend the SCRL language as spoken and written, speak both of the assignment required SCRL required languages and English, choose an expression in English that fully conveys and best matches the meaning of the source language, have familiarity with the cultural context of both the SCRL and English, have knowledge of terminology in specialized fields, observe protocols applicable to different settings, and master the modes appliable to these settings.
- Possess a current passport with two years remaining before expiration.
- Pass a standard physical examination that includes, at a minimum: medical history, height, weight, blood pressure, HIV antibody and chest X-ray.
- Be physically capable of performing duties, functions and activities as outlined in the contract agreement.
- Comply with all security requirements.
- Comply with necessary CENTCOM clearance, training, immunizations, and medical requirements.
- Have a command of English and the SCRL languages.
- Must have a **Secret security clearance**.
