The Headteacher of Sherborne Qetaf is looking for an outstanding educational professional to join her in establishing a new specialist provision. We wish to appoint a Deputy Headteacher from August 2023, to help establish a culture of excellence to ensure that all children and young people at our school can be successful in their lives at school and beyond.

We are looking for a senior leader who is innovative, passionate about working with children who have special educational needs and who is keen to make a difference to our pupils and their families’ lives. This is an amazing opportunity to make a real, positive difference to the lives of children and their families within our Qatar community.

Successful applicants must have:

- A certified teaching qualification, such as B.Ed, PGCE, PGDE or equivalent from a UK University
- Qualified teacher status
- Advanced training in SEND
- Knowledge and qualifications of the statutory requirements and other relevant legislation relating to child protection procedures and safeguarding
- Evidence of leadership and management of a whole school aspect, preferably in an SEND setting
- Evidence of outstanding teaching experience in SEND settings
- Excellent understanding and experience of positive behaviour management strategies, especially when working with children with special educational needs and disabilities

Desirable qualities:

- Relevant post graduate qualification in special education
- Masters or National Professional Qualification such as NPQML, NPQSL or NPQH
- Experience of being a Designated Safeguarding Lead or Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead
- Experience of delivering nationally accredited training programmes for professionals and families
- Experience of managing change at a whole school level

Additionally, you will have:

- A good understanding of what contributes to successful learning and the ability to promote the most effective teaching strategies to bring this about
- Knowledge of relevant special needs legislation and current issues in SEND
- Knowledge of, and commitment to, equal opportunities, inclusion and outreach
- Strong interpersonal communication skills and the ability to form positive collaborative relationships with staff, pupils and stakeholders
- Resilience and the ability to handle difficult situations and challenges
- A flexible and creative approach to problem solving
- A sense of humour and can adapt to living in a demanding environment

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. A successful applicant from outside the jurisdiction of the DBS will be required to provide an approved statement from the similar authority in the country in which he or she is currently based, and all other countries that they have resided in outside of the UK.
