Scba Technician

**ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS**
- Maintains, tests, and certifies all SCBA; tracks SCBA maintenance and repairs; documents all SCBA testing as required by applicable codes; fit test personnel as required by National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).
- Provides technical assistance to various divisions of the department; analyzes failures of various technical equipment; diagnoses and repairs specialized equipment to include power saws, hydraulic rescue tools and various other equipment and small engines.
- Orders, receives, and issues SCBA components; work with vendors; performs inventory checks, coordinates warranty repairs of SCBA and compressors; services, repairs, and tests air samples from all fixed and mobile breathing air compressors on a quarterly basis; documents all testing required by applicable codes.
- Develops specifications on highly specialized department equipment; writes technical specifications, evaluates, and conducts yearly inspections and maintenance on specialized equipment, small engines, and other equipment; coordinates purchase of SCBA, air compressors, specialized equipment, small engines, and various equipment with the Logistics Bureau and Operations Division.

**REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE**
- Equipment Operation and Tools - Comprehensive knowledge of the methods, tools and equipment used in the repair of specialized equipment, small engines, air compressors and SCBAs. Comprehensive knowledge of the procedures for diagnosing malfunctions, operating, and maintaining assigned equipment. Comprehensive knowledge of the technical repair procedures for small engines. Thorough knowledge of hydraulic systems related to the types of specialized equipment assigned.
- Customer Service — Considerable knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer service.
- Safety - Comprehensive knowledge of safety procedures and precautions necessary for the proper operation and repair of specialized equipment, small engines, air compressors and SCBAs.
