Job Summary:
Following routine protocols under the close supervision of a faculty member or a senior technician, performs laboratory tests utilizing requisite lab equipment and instruments, making minor adjustments as required. Typically works with chemicals and biohazardous materials. Responsible for laboratory maintenance, preparing solutions and media, ordering supplies, operating, and maintaining different lab equipment e.g. HPLC, GC/MS, IR, XRD and others. Maintains lab equipment and conducts minor trouble shooting equipment breakdown. May be responsible for care of laboratory animals (whenever needed).
**Responsibilities**:
- Prepares solutions and reagents following standard laboratory formulas and procedures
- Prepares, cleans, sterilizes, and maintains laboratory equipment, glassware, and instruments used in research experiments as appropriate
- Runs trials and validates experiments prior to laboratory sessions
- Performs and/or demonstrates experimental techniques and methods including various assays and other specialized techniques
- Operates laboratory equipment/instruments; records data; maintains equipment, makes minor equipment adjustments
- Maintains lab equipment and conducts minor troubleshooting
- Uses universal safety precautions to protect self and co-workers from biohazardous materials, including blood-borne pathogens
- Complies with biohazard/radiation safety standards
- Completes annual university biohazard/universal precaution/radiation safety training, as appropriate
- Uses sterile techniques to avoid contaminating lab experiments as appropriate
- Monitors inventory levels, orders materials and supplies in accordance with established policies and procedures, counts orders upon receipt
- Support the program in the collective development of a preventive maintenance schedule for building and facilities related maintenance
- Ensures the implementation of the approved preventive maintenance plan
- Ensures timely resolution of corrective maintenance requests/complaints
- Inspects maintenance work and projects to ensure procedures and materials comply with maintenance and project specifications, contract documents and/or work instructions
- Maintains and operates different lab equipment e.g. HPLC, UPLC, GC/MS, IR, XRD, Dissolution apparatus and others.
- Adheres to the University’s security and safety guidelines
- Maintains confidentiality of information
- Perform other tasks and duties that may be occasionally required in order to meet the requirements of the role and the aims of the University.
**Qualifications**:
- Minimum of BSc in pharmacy or equivalent
- Fluent in English
- Experience in a teaching laboratory setting is preferred.
