About the Role

The Senior Manager Legal will be accountable and responsible for leading and managing a small team of legal specialists to review and negotiate major contracts related to Commercial Corporate and other functions across the QR group. The successful candidate will provide legal advice on a variety of matters to stakeholders and senior management.

Key Accountabilities:
  • Contract Management: Develop and implement procedures for contract management and administration in compliance with company policy. Contribute to or influence company contractual policies as appropriate.
  • Negotiation and Drafting: Negotiate, draft, and implement a wide variety of complex multiparty agreements, including mergers and acquisitions, and strategic alliances.
  • Strategic Contract Management: Coordinate the development and management of strategic contracts in accordance with corporate requirements, supporting legal requirements and procedures to secure and protect the business interests of the company in matters related to contracts.
  • Procedure Development: Facilitate the development and maintenance of strategic procedures for contracts and procurement.
  • Contract Review and Negotiation: Review, draft, interpret, and negotiate major contracts related to Commercial Corporate and other functions, particularly joint ventures and cross-border business partnering, to monitor risk and minimize exposure.
  • Risk Management: Identify and evaluate the risks arising from contractual positions and advise the business accordingly.
  • Process Improvement: Seek out, propose, and implement approved business process improvements to facilitate achieving high performance standards.
  • Interdepartmental Support: Assist and support other Qatar Airways Departments with contract interpretation and implementation.
  • Proactive Legal Assistance: Provide proactive legal assistance and advice on various issues, applying commercial acumen to project airline interests and reputation.
  • Team Management: Establish the department or team objectives and priorities to align with and support business objectives.
  • Team Evaluation: Regularly evaluate the team's objectives, plans, procedures, and practices, making appropriate changes if needed.
  • Employee Supervision: Oversee and supervise employees, directing daily activities, recruiting, training, developing, and disciplining to ensure a high standard of service delivery. Actively manage team and team workload, setting priorities, coaching, and developing other employees to ensure succession planning is in place.
  • Employee Development: Train and develop other employees to ensure succession planning is in place.
  • Health and Safety: Ensure that employees at all levels understand work health and safety requirements and expectations through provision of relevant QR Group induction information, instruction, training, and supervision.
Requirements:
  • Qualifications: Relevant College or University qualification to minimum Bachelor's level (Master's or higher an added bonus).
  • Education: Degree in Law.
  • Experience: Minimum 10 years relevant experience.
  • Skills: Excellent contract drafting skills, excellent negotiation skills, ability to communicate complex legal matters, take instructions from, and deal confidentially with senior management.
  • Language: Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and/or Arabic.
  • Analytical Skills: Excellent analytical skills.
  • Pressure Management: Ability to function under pressure and work on various projects simultaneously.
  • Learning Ability: Ability to grasp new areas of law rapidly and accurately.
