Key Responsibilities

  1. Design and engineer process facilities within a specific timeframe, adhering to maintenance, safety, and quality standards.
  2. Develop 3D models, ensuring a clash-free model in coordination with other disciplines.
  3. Approve drawings, including plot plans, according to project specifications and McDermott procedures.
  4. Facilitate work activities and complete assignments.
  5. Organize work and time to meet objectives and plan resource requirements as Lead Designer.
  6. Additional Responsibilities as Lead Designer
    1. Lead the design team to complete tasks within the planned schedule and budget.
    2. Communicate with Project Team, Client, vendors, and subcontractors.
    3. Ensure inter-discipline aspects of design and deliverables are addressed.
    4. Support Lead Piping Engineer in measuring progress and productivity.
    5. Coordinate activities within own discipline and discipline interfaces.
    6. Ensure effective communications and management of change.
    7. Coordinate 3D Model Reviews and close review comments.
  7. Be familiar with Project Scope, specifications, schedule, and inter-discipline requirements.
  8. Develop Plant Design and 3D Modelling, Drawings according to work hours and schedule.
  9. Add input into Plant Layout Narrative according to agreed Scope of work.
  10. Identify issues and take corrective action.
  11. Raise change notifications in the Change Management System.
  12. Assist Lead Piping Engineer in raising technical queries and preparing piping estimates.
  13. Attend project meetings, including Kickoff, Review meetings, Vendor meetings, and model reviews.
  14. Monitor and coordinate the design team remotely if required.
  15. Lead the project in a Multi Office Project Execution Environment (MOPEX).
  16. Support and supervise less-experienced members.
  17. Ensure work is carried out according to McDermott requirements, Client, and Statutory Design Codes.
  18. Support Department Manager with Designer's appraisals.
  19. Exercise judgment to identify and solve problems.
  20. Exchange ideas and information effectively.

Reports to

Project: Lead Piping Engineer, Lead Piping Designer
Functional: Supervising Department Manager
Liaise With: Lead Designers, Engineers, all other Engineering disciplines Leads assigned to the project, Project Engineer, IM Group, Document Control, and Client representatives.
Supervises: Piping Design team assigned to a project or part of the project during the detailing and production phases.

Qualifications

Essential Qualifications and Education

  • 10 years minimum experience with a major contractor or consultant, including 10+ years in oil and gas performing Pre-FEED, FEED, and Detailed Design.
  • High School graduate with a diploma in Mechanical Design, or Drafting in a related discipline or equivalent experience.
  • Detailed knowledge of 3D CAD systems including E3D or SP3D.
  • Minimum 1 or 2 projects working experience in E3D and/or S3D.
  • Detailed knowledge of AutoCAD and/or Auto Lisp.
  • Familiar with the associated local regulatory environment and international and national industry standards and specifications.
  • Capable of leading projects.
  • General understanding of how process equipment is maintained and operated.
  • Programming, 3D Modeling, Menu, and/or Macro compilation skills would be an advantage.
  • Flexible for business traveling/assignments.
  • Knowledge of QA Systems and a good communicator.
