Job Overview

The Geological Expert will play a crucial role in integrating geological findings into comprehensive field development strategies. This position requires collaboration with geophysicists, reservoir engineers, and petrophysicists to ensure accurate data interpretation and optimal resource extraction.

  2. Plan and develop geological inputs for field development activities, including asset value optimization.
  3. Develop and manage comprehensive geological models and simulations, utilizing drilling results to improve and update the models.
  4. Analyze structural trap styles to evaluate hydrocarbon accumulation mechanisms and optimize exploration and development strategies.
  5. Develop Reservoir Quality (RQ) Prediction models for better reservoir performance forecasting and decision-making.
  6. Review and participate in evaluating volumetrics, incorporating findings into Annual Review of Reserves and reviewing updates as necessary.
  7. Coordinate in-house, laboratory, and specialist consultant activities to enhance project outcomes.
  8. Review and predict reservoir pressure to optimize recovery and mitigate risks.
  9. Collaborate to recommend drilling locations and subsurface targets to optimize field development.
  10. Contribute to coordination and management of mud logging, well site geology LWD, wireline, and other subsurface contracts.
  11. Plan and lead on-the-job coaching and development of junior staff in the discipline.

Decision Making Authority

  • Operates within broad guidelines established by the team Head, taking responsibility for their actions and their outcomes. Requires minimal oversight from the team Head.
  • Within broad guidelines set by the Team leader, the position performs near real-time monitoring for well profile geo-steering, aiming to make an optimum contact with the reservoir target.
  • Recommends operations entailing annual expenditure of millions and generates hundreds of millions in revenue to QatarEnergy.

Context / Special Features / Challenges

  • Devise own and collective work methods in accordance with overall departmental policies and goals, demonstrating considerable independence due to the specialist nature of work.
  • Identify subsurface uncertainties and develop mitigations/solutions by assessing alternatives and related risk/reward.
  • The incumbent may be on site or on call for extended periods, requiring mental rigor to deal with frequent disruptions outside working hours and make optimal operational decisions.
  • Ensure relevant environmental and safety standards are enacted for all projects and activities under their authority, producing high-quality 'fit-for-purpose' deficiency-free work.

Requirements

  • Minimum 15 years of relevant work experience in the oil and gas industry, with 6 years of experience combining geological studies and operations.
  • B.Sc. degree in Geosciences with extensive petroleum geology training.
  • Expertise with the acquisition, detailed analysis, and interpretation of geological data to determine hydrocarbon presence and quality.
  • Must have carbonate reservoir experience and worked on mature producing fields where production data has been used to constrain maps and interpretations.
  • Expertise in Conventional Core Analysis (CCA) to determine reservoir properties and enhance data quality for subsurface characterization.
  • Strong teamwork skills and experience working in a multicultural environment is advantageous.
