Job Summary

A Civil Supervisor is responsible for overseeing construction activities and ensuring that civil engineering projects are completed safely, efficiently, and to specification. This role requires strong leadership skills, technical knowledge, and attention to detail to manage construction teams, coordinate tasks, and ensure compliance with project plans and specifications.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise construction activities and ensure compliance with project plans and specifications.
  • Coordinate tasks and work closely with project managers, engineers, and subcontractors to ensure smooth workflow and communication.
  • Monitor work quality and ensure all work meets the required standards and specifications.
  • Conduct inspections and document any deficiencies, taking corrective actions as necessary.
  • Implement safety protocols and enforce safety regulations and practices to create a safe working environment.
  • Conduct safety meetings and provide guidance and support to team members.
  • Manage construction teams and foster effective teamwork and communication.
  • Provide guidance and support to team members, helping them develop their skills.
  • Oversee material usage and ensure proper use and storage of materials and equipment on-site.
  • Maintain records and prepare reports for management and stakeholders regarding project status.
  • Identify issues and develop effective solutions, collaborating with engineers and other stakeholders as necessary.
  • Ensure compliance with local building codes, regulations, and environmental standards.
  • Assist in budget tracking and identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality.
  • Promote best practices and encourage feedback from team members to continuously improve construction processes and safety protocols.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., OSHA, NEBOSH) are a plus.
  • Typically 5-8 years of experience in civil construction or site supervision.
  • Experience in infrastructure projects (e.g., roads, bridges, buildings) is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of civil engineering principles, construction methods, and materials.
  • Familiarity with project management software (e.g., AutoCAD, MS Project) and construction management tools.
  • Experience in project planning, scheduling, and resource allocation.
  • Knowledge of quality assurance processes and standards in civil construction.
  • Proven ability to lead and manage construction teams effectively.
  • Strong skills in resolving conflicts and managing team dynamics on-site.
  • Excellent communication skills to interact with team members, subcontractors, and clients.
  • Ability to prepare and present project updates and reports clearly and concisely.
  • Strong analytical skills to identify issues and develop effective solutions on-site.
  • Ability to make informed decisions quickly and effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and project deadlines efficiently.
  • High attention to detail to ensure compliance with specifications and safety standards.
  • Familiarity with safety regulations and best practices in civil construction.
  • A strong commitment to promoting and maintaining a safe work environment for all workers.
