Job Description: Chemical Process Safety Engineer


The successful candidate will report to the Director, Middle East, and be responsible for identifying process hazards, evaluating the risk of those hazards, and developing effective solutions to mitigate risk. The ideal candidate must be familiar with the fourteen elements of Process Safety Management (PSM) and the EPA's Risk Management Plan (RMP) rule, with preference given to Chemical Process safety management.



  • Familiarity with NFPA 30; IL state pressure vessel requirements; IL state atmospheric storage tank requirements; and experience interfacing with insurance carriers (Factory Mutual)
  • Responsibilities include leading Process Hazard Analysis (PHA), HAZID, NAZOP, SIL Workshops on existing and new processes; providing oversight for the site Management of Change (MOC) Process; managing the site PHA schedule and recommendation implementation plan; leading Root Cause Analysis (RCA) investigations for incidents and near misses; and more.

Requirements and Qualifications


The successful candidate should possess:



  • A degree in a related engineering field (chemical, electrical, mechanical, fire protection, safety) along with a minimum of 8 years of industry experience related to process safety management, process or engineering design environment, manufacturing operations, and/or consulting environment
  • Ability to develop the consulting business including developing proposals and making presentations
  • Strong leadership & organizational skills, analytical, problem-solving, and facilitation skills, and a consultative approach in supporting customer projects
  • Experience with Safety Instrumented Systems services such as Safety integrity level (SIL) assessment based on recognized knowledge of IEC61511 and related standards; Quantitative Risk Assessment Studies such as Consequence Modelling, QRA, and Occupied Building Risk Assessment; Toxic Gas Risk Assessment; and more.
  • Demonstrate clear commitment to developing less experienced engineers in the team through effective training.
