Job Title: Director of Carnegie Mellon Qatar Campus Library

Carnegie Mellon University is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director of the Library at its Qatar campus in Doha, Qatar (CMU-Q). The successful candidate will be responsible for planning and managing all aspects of the CMU-Q library, including providing a wide range of services, collections, resources, and spaces to support students, faculty, and staff in the programs offered at the Qatar campus.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage the library's operational budget, including the procurement of print and digital resources specific to the Qatar campus.
  • Hire and supervise library personnel, currently including one faculty librarian, three library support staff, and up to three student assistants.
  • Develop and implement projects to improve library services and collections.
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff to support teaching, learning, and research.
  • Stay up-to-date with current developments in library and higher education management through professional development activities.
Requirements:
  • ALA-accredited MLS or ALA-recognized international equivalent.
  • Three to five years' experience managing library operations and supervising personnel and projects.
  • Outstanding communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work positively with diverse constituencies in an environment of rapid change.
  • Strong commitment to public service.
  • Ability to plan and implement projects, meet deadlines, and to juggle multiple tasks and priorities.
  • Ability to effectively negotiate and advocate for the needs of the library in support of the CMU-Q community.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Second degree or coursework in a related discipline.
  • Experience negotiating contracts with library materials vendors and service providers.
  • Experience managing budgets and expenditures.
