Roles and responsibilities

A Steward is responsible for maintaining cleanliness and hygiene in the kitchen, dishwashing areas, and food service areas. This role ensures that kitchen & F&B have clean dishes, utensils, and equipment while adhering to food safety standards.

Wash and sanitize dishes, glassware, utensils, pots, and pans.
Keep kitchen workstations, floors, and food prep areas clean.
Ensure garbage disposal and waste management are handled efficiently.
Follow health, safety, and hygiene regulations.
Clean and maintain kitchen equipment, ovens, grills, and storage areas.
Ensure proper storage of kitchen tools and utensils.
Report any damaged or malfunctioning kitchen equipment to the supervisor.
Restock plates, glassware, and cutlery for chefs and servers.
Assist in receiving and storing deliveries of kitchen supplies.
Keep track of cleaning supplies and chemicals, informing management of restocking needs.
Maintaining Cleanliness and Sanitation
Cleaning Dining Areas: Ensure that tables, chairs, and floor areas are cleaned and organized before and after meals. Make sure dining spaces are set up and ready for guests.
Cleaning Kitchen and Equipment: Assist with the cleanliness and maintenance of kitchen equipment, utensils, and work areas. Clean dishes, cookware, glassware, and silverware, and ensure all items are sanitized and ready for use.
Restocking and Organizing: Restock kitchen supplies, such as utensils, napkins, plates, glasses, and cleaning materials, ensuring they are readily available for kitchen and dining staff.
Maintaining Hygiene Standards: Ensure that hygiene standards and food safety regulations are followed, including proper storage of food and cleaning supplies, and ensuring all areas are free of dirt or hazards.
Assisting the Kitchen and Dining Staff
Supporting the Kitchen Staff: Assist chefs and cooks by washing dishes, pots, and pans, and ensuring that all kitchen equipment is clean and ready for the next shift. Help prepare ingredients or utensils as needed.
Supporting the Waitstaff: Assist waitstaff by clearing dirty dishes from tables and taking them to the kitchen for washing. Refill water glasses and help with the smooth delivery of food to customers.
Ensuring Timely Service: Help ensure that food is served promptly and that no items are delayed in reaching the dining room. Work in coordination with waitstaff to meet customers' needs.

Desired candidate profile

Previous experience in stewarding (Minimum 2-3 years).
Basic understanding of kitchen operations and hygiene standards.
Physical stamina (standing for long hours, lifting heavy kitchen equipment).
Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
Strong teamwork, communication, and organizational skills.
Setting Up and Maintaining Service Areas
Preparing Service Stations: Set up and maintain service stations for food preparation, cooking, or plating, ensuring cleanliness and organization. This includes arranging clean glasses, plates, and utensils for service.
Dishware Setup: Ensure that all dishware is arranged in an orderly manner, whether for dining tables or kitchen prep areas. This includes ensuring that all serving trays and glassware are polished and ready.
Clearance of Tables: After guests leave, clear the table quickly and cleanly, resetting the table as needed for the next guests. Ensure the dining area is always ready for incoming guests.
Inventory Management
Stocking and Restocking: Assist in maintaining the stock of kitchen and dining room supplies. This includes monitoring inventory of dishes, silverware, cleaning supplies, and other essentials, and reporting shortages to the supervisor or manager.
Maintaining Equipment: Regularly check the condition of equipment and utensils, ensuring that everything is in working order. Alert supervisors to any damaged or missing equipment.
