Roles and responsibilities

We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced Senior Pediatric Speech and Language Pathology to join our Inpatient Child and Adolescent Mental Health Unit (CAMHS). Candidates must have extensive experience of working with neurodevelopmental disorders such as Autistic Spectrum Disorders and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorders and mental health conditions.
As a Pediatric Speech and Language Pathology Specialist, you will provide care for patients aged 0-18 years within an inpatient setting. Additionally, you will help develop services for these patients and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team that includes Psychiatry, Clinical Psychologists, Occupational Therapist, and Physiotherapist.
Experience in managing Autism, attention disorders, Developmental Language Disorder and Selective Mutism and other childhood mental health conditions are essential. Leadership experience in a specialized area of Speech and Language Pathology is highly desirable.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide highly specialized Speech and Language Pathology services within secure inpatient psychiatric setting

• Collaborate within a multidisciplinary team and link in with the necessary outpatient services

• Supervise junior Speech and Language Pathologists

• Lead on service and resource development in your specialist area

Assessment and Diagnosis

  • Conducting Evaluations: SLPs assess speech, language, cognitive, and swallowing abilities. This involves using standardized tests, formal assessments, and informal observations.
  • Identifying Disorders: They diagnose a range of disorders, including speech delays, stuttering, language impairments, aphasia (language difficulties due to brain injury or stroke), voice disorders, and dysphagia (swallowing issues).
  • Determining the Cause: SLPs determine whether the disorder is developmental, neurological, congenital, or the result of trauma or illness.

2. Treatment Planning and Intervention

  • Developing Personalized Treatment Plans: Based on their evaluations, SLPs create customized treatment plans aimed at addressing the individual's specific needs and goals.
  • Speech Therapy: They help individuals improve articulation, fluency (e.g., reducing stuttering), and voice disorders.
  • Language Therapy: SLPs assist in improving language skills, such as comprehension, vocabulary, and the ability to express thoughts both verbally and non-verbally (sign language, augmentative devices).
  • Swallowing Therapy: For those with dysphagia, SLPs create strategies to improve swallowing safety and function, helping prevent choking and aspiration.
Desired candidate profile

Bachelor's degree in Speech and Language Pathology from an accredited program

• At least 5 years of relevant clinical experience, including pediatric hospital or clinic experience

• Expertise in neurodevelopmental disorders and mental health conditions

• Experience in a multidisciplinary team environment for assessment and treatment

• Formal training in Autism and ADHD

• Licensure or registration in your country of origin, with eligibility for licensure in Qatar
Assessing Speech and Language Disorders: SLPs evaluate speech, language, voice, fluency, and communication skills through standardized tests, interviews, and observations.
Developing Treatment Plans: Based on assessments, they create personalized treatment plans for their clients.
Speech Therapy: This may include exercises to help with articulation, language comprehension, fluency (stuttering), or voice disorders.
Swallowing Therapy: SLPs also help individuals who have difficulty swallowing due to illness or injury.
Collaborating with Other Professionals: SLPs often work with doctors, teachers, and psychologists to ensure comprehensive care.
