Overview:
ESH Specialist is responsible for monitoring and providing technical support to an assigned area of the program. Specialist will evaluate work sites to ensure operations are in compliance with Federal, State, and local requirements, provide technical support to area supervisors/managers in corrective actions for compliance deficiencies, conduct observations, conduct program evaluations, and perform root cause analysis (RCA). Specialist will develop training packages and instruct training packages. Specialist will be required to operate monitoring equipment and conduct specialized testing of physical, chemical, and environmental stressors. Specialist will write technical reports and will interact with the middle management team.
**Responsibilities**:
- Implements a standardized ESH program, which is Management System based.
- Performs risk analysis, develops programs that exceed basic regulatory compliance, identifies needed resources (such as personal protective equipment) and budget for resources, identifies required training for employees in various operations, performs and documents training, documents and submits monthly performance metrics, performs ESH inspections, and implements employee reward and recognition program.
- Reads and understands regulatory compliance and submits any documentation required to operate under permits (such as air, hazardous waste, and water).
- Communicates (manage-from-the-floor type) with senior management, area supervisors, and regulators to help implement a complete ESH program.
- Implements hazardous material and hazardous waste programs in industrial areas.
- Sets a good example to the workforce by following all environmental, safety, and health regulations, policies, procedures, and practices; keeps work area/equipment clean and orderly.
- Performs other duties and assignments as required.
Qualifications:
- **Education / Certifications**:One-year related experience may be substituted for one year of education if degree is required.
- High School/GED, 3+ years', Performs complex tasks
- Associates degree in environmental, safety, health, or related discipline. Or combination advanced education and 2 years' of experience.
- ** Experience**:
- Minimum two years’ experience as environmental, safety and health specialist, with firsthand knowledge of operations in a behavior-based safety compliance program and hazardous material management, to include environmental compliance; knowledgeable in DoD, Army, EPA, and Federal regulations. Military background and training are beneficial
- ** Skills & Technology Used**:
- Ability to instruct small and medium groups of people, Competent in computer operations to include
- Microsoft Office; Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
