The Lab Technician/Engineer supports our Engineering and AI programmes by performing various tasks, including setup, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of laboratory equipment. The technician will also undergo training on all equipment present in the labs. They will conduct tests on equipment, record data, and ensure the lab is maintained to high standards of safety and cleanliness. This role is critical in supporting research and development activities within the engineering department.

**Job Profile**:
**Lab Setup and Maintenance**:

- Undergo training, set up, and prepare laboratory equipment and instrumentation required for experiments and tests.
- Maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment to ensure accuracy and reliability.
- Perform routine general maintenance and troubleshooting on lab instruments and machinery.

**Training and Demonstrations**:

- Conduct training sessions, workshops, demonstrations for both internal and external stakeholders.

**Experimentation and Data Collection**:

- Assist in the design and execution of activities and experiments under the guidance of engineers and scientists.
- Collect and record accurate data during experiments and tests.
- Analyse experimental data and prepare detailed reports on findings.

**Safety and Compliance**:

- Ensure compliance with all safety protocols and regulations within the lab.
- Maintain a clean and organized laboratory environment.
- Identify and address potential safety hazards in the lab.

**Support and Collaboration**:

- Collaborate with engineering teams to support ongoing projects and initiatives.
- Provide technical assistance and training to other lab personnel and students.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of lab processes and procedures.

**Inventory Management**:

- Manage inventory of lab supplies and materials.
- Initiate order and replenish supplies as needed to ensure uninterrupted lab operations.

**Qualifications and Experience**:
**Education**:

- A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Engineering Technology, Laboratory Science, or a related field. A Master’s degree is preferred.

**Experience**:

- Previous experience working in a higher education laboratory environment, preferably within an engineering or research setting for at least 3 years.

**Technical Skills**:

- Proficiency in using and maintaining laboratory equipment and instruments.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Familiarity with data collection and analysis software.

**Soft Skills**:

- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

**Physical Requirements**:

- Ability to lift and move lab equipment and supplies.
- Dexterity to handle delicate instruments and perform precise measurements.
- Standing and walking for extended periods within the lab environment.
