Environmental Specailist

Job Summary

The Environmental Specialist is responsible for ensuring that building construction and renovation projects comply with environmental regulations, standards, and best practices. The role focuses on environmental impact mitigation, sustainability measures, waste management, and monitoring environmental performance throughout the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

• Ensure compliance with local environmental laws, regulations, and project-specific environmental requirements.
• Implement and monitor Environmental Management Plans (EMP) for construction and renovation projects.
• Liaise with regulatory authorities, consultants, and clients on environmental matters.
• Conduct site inspections and audits to ensure environmental compliance.
• Identify potential environmental impacts related to construction and renovation activities and recommend mitigation measures.
• Monitor air quality, noise, dust, vibration, and water pollution control measures on site.
• Promote sustainable construction practices, including energy efficiency, material reuse, and environmental protection.
• Develop and implement waste management plans, including segregation, recycling, and disposal of construction and demolition waste.
• Monitor hazardous and non-hazardous waste handling, storage, and disposal.
• Ensure spill prevention and response measures are in place and followed.
• Prepare environmental reports, method statements, risk assessments, and monitoring records.
• Maintain environmental logs, permits, approvals, and compliance documentation.
• Report non-conformances and recommend corrective and preventive actions.
• Conduct environmental awareness training and toolbox talks for site staff and subcontractors.
• Promote environmental responsibility and best practices among project teams.
• Coordinate with HSE, QA/QC, project managers, and site teams on environmental issues.
• Support consultant and authority inspections and environmental audits.

• Renovation, refurbishment, and fit-out works
• Demolition and alteration works
• External and internal building services related activities

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Civil Engineering, or related field.
• Minimum 8 years of relevant experience in construction and renovation projects.
• Strong knowledge of environmental regulations, standards, and construction practices.

Skills & Competencies

• Strong understanding of environmental impact assessment and mitigation.
• Knowledge of waste management, pollution control, and sustainability practices.
• Excellent documentation and reporting skills.
• Strong communication and coordination abilities.
• Ability to work independently and under site conditions.

Preferred Requirements

• Experience in GCC / Qatar construction and renovation projects.
• Familiarity with local authority environmental standards and approvals.
• Environmental certifications (ISO 14001, NEBOSH Environmental, or equivalent) Mandatory.
