Key Responsibilities:

  • Case Management & Admissibility:
     Receive, register, and screen objection cases for completeness, eligibility, and adherence to statutory timelines. Verify decisions under objection and manage procedural milestones.
  • Technical Analysis & Evidence Assessment:
     Conduct in-depth reviews of objection statements, grounds, and evidence against applicable indirect tax legislation. Request and evaluate additional documentation, performing objective legal and technical analysis on assessments, penalties, and refunds.
  • Decision Drafting & Issuance:
     Draft clear, well-reasoned decisions and recommendations, addressing all legal and factual grounds. Support the issuance of final decisions within strict statutory deadlines (e.g., 60 days) and prepare cases for review by the Objections Committee.
  • Escalation & Litigation Support:
     Prepare comprehensive, indexed case files and evidentiary bundles for matters escalated to appeals or judicial stages. Facilitate smooth handovers and provide clarifications to support subsequent litigation.
  • Coordination & Knowledge Leadership:
     Collaborate with audit, legal, and IT departments to gather necessary data and inputs. Maintain impeccable records, ensure audit trails, and contribute to process improvements by updating templates, checklists, and internal guidance based on case insights.
  • Reporting & Strategic Insight:
     Generate periodic reports on caseload volumes, outcomes, turnaround times, and recurring error themes. Identify systemic issues and recommend procedural or policy enhancements to strengthen compliance.

For a Senior Specialist Role (Targeting 9+ years experience):

  • Experience:
     9+ years in tax disputes, administrative review, or legal/tax advisory with a strong focus on 
    indirect taxes (VAT, GST, Customs, Excise)
    .
  • Qualifications:
     Bachelor's degree in Law, Taxation, Accounting, or a related field. A professional certification (CTA, ACCA, CPA) or advanced degree (LL.M, Masters in Tax) is a strong advantage.
  • Skills:
     Proven ability to manage an objections caseload, apply legislative provisions, draft structured recommendations, and work effectively to statutory deadlines.

For an Expert Role (Targeting 16+ years experience):

  • Experience:
     16+ years of deep expertise in indirect tax disputes, with a proven track record of drafting complex administrative decisions and preparing cases for escalation.
  • Qualifications:
     Bachelor's degree required; an advanced degree in Law or Taxation is preferred. Relevant professional certification is highly valued.
  • Skills:
     Expert-level knowledge of indirect tax law and procedure, exceptional analytical and writing skills, and the ability to provide oversight, mentorship, and strategic insights to the team.
