A Styrofoam (Expanded Polystyrene) cutting machine operator is responsible for setting up and running specialized equipment to shape foam blocks into precise components for events decoration.

Key Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Machine Operation & Setup: Set up, adjust, and operate foam cutting machinery (e.g., CNC hot wire, band saws, vertical/horizontal cutters) according to work orders and shop drawings.
  • Production & Cutting: Cut, slice, and shape raw foam blocks to specific dimensions and profiles, ensuring minimal waste.
  • Quality Control & Inspection: Inspect finished, cut foam pieces for accuracy, ensuring they meet specifications and are free of defects.
  • Technical Adjustments: Program CNC machines, adjust cutting speeds, and change wire tension or saw blades as needed.
  • Material Handling: Load and unload large, lightweight foam blocks onto the machine bed, and stack or package finished products.
  • Maintenance & Safety: Perform daily maintenance (cleaning, lubricating) and follow strict safety protocols (using PPE like masks/gloves) to prevent injury from dust or hot equipment.
  • Documentation: Record production data, including amount of material used, cut sizes, and downtime.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Experience: Previous manufacturing experience is preferred but not necessary.
  • Skills: Ability to read and interpret, simple blueprints, and CAD drawings.
  • Measurement: Ability to use tape measures for precise measurements.
  • Technical Ability: Basic computer skills (for CNC operation).
  • Attention to Detail: Strong focus on precision to ensure accurate, high-quality cuts.
