Job Purpose:
The Naval MRO Electrical & Electronic Systems Specialist is responsible for the maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and lifecycle support of all electrical and electronic systems onboard naval vessels.
This includes power distribution, control systems, navigation and communication equipment, sensors, surveillance systems, combat system interfaces, and mission-critical electronics.
Initially tasked with finalizing project details prior to contract commencement, you will transition to the operations department where you will work across O-D, O-I, and I-D maintenance levels, ensuring electrical and electronic systems remain safe, compliant, and fully operational. You will work closely with marine engineers, combat systems teams, OEMs, shipyards, and the MRO program organization.
Initially reporting to the Maritime Project Lead before transition to the Maritime Head of Operations, the role will be split across the organization Headquarters and the end-user sites in and around Qatar.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. MRO Planning & Work Package Development
- Assist in the creation and development of technical scopes prior to contract commencement.
- Identify material, tooling, and technical requirements for electrical/electronic maintenance packages.
- Highlight long-lead items, obsolescence risks, and component dependencies to planners and logistics teams.
- Develop task lists and maintenance sequences for dry-dock periods, upgrades, and scheduled inspections.
- Participate in readiness reviews and system defect triage meetings.
2. Electrical & Electronic System Maintenance
- Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on electrical distribution systems, switchboards, breakers, lighting, battery systems, and auxiliary electrical equipment.
- Maintain and troubleshoot navigation systems (radar, GPS, gyrocompass), communication systems (VHF/UHF/HF radios), and electronic sensors.
- Diagnose faults using test equipment, system diagnostics, and onboard monitoring tools.
- Support defect response for power failures, sensor issues, control system alarms, and electronic component failures.
3. Control Systems & Platform Electronics
- Maintain and support platform management systems (IPMS), propulsion control interfaces, steering/CPP controls, generator management systems, and PLC-based equipment.
- Ensure correct configuration, software versions, and calibration for critical electronic subsystems.
- Support troubleshooting to component, module, or PCB level where possible.
4. Technical Documentation & Configuration Control
- Maintain accurate logs of electrical diagrams, wiring schematics, cable schedules, equipment lists, and change records.
- Ensure compliance with class rules, naval standards, and OEM maintenance instructions.
- Review and implement service bulletins, modification kits, and system upgrades.
- Support electrical safety audits, grounding checks, insulation tests, and regulatory inspections.
5. Operational Support & Trials
- Provide onboard support during sea trials, HAT/SAT activities, post-maintenance tests, and equipment commissioning.
- Assist naval crews in understanding correct operation, preventive checks, and fault reporting procedures.
- Analyse operational data, fault logs, power quality readings, and system alarms to improve reliability.
6. Continuous Improvement & Reliability Engineering
- Identify recurring electrical/electronic failures and recommend corrective actions.
- Support reliability-centred maintenance (RCM) reviews and contribute to improvements in maintenance philosophy.
- Assess obsolescence risks in legacy or ageing systems and propose replacement or upgrade pathways.
- Capture lessons learned and contribute to engineering change and lifecycle support plans.

Educational Requirement
:
Postgraduate or Bachelor's degree qualification in Appropriate Engineering / Engineering Management field.
Experience Requirement:
Military Naval Maintenance Management: Practical experience and an excellent understanding of Naval MRO including maintenance and repair policy and procedure; drafting/developing technical documentation; personnel and stakeholder management; development of business opportunities.
Skills & Experience:
Essential:
- 5+ years of experience in naval, maritime, defense, or high-reliability electrical/electronic maintenance.
- Strong technical knowledge of electrical distribution, control systems, navigation systems, communications equipment, and platform electronics.
- Skilled in troubleshooting using multimeters, insulation testers, oscilloscopes, and electronic diagnostic tools.
- Understanding of classification society requirements, naval standards, and safety regulations related to electrical systems.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, cable routing diagrams, and technical manuals.
Desirable:
- Experience in working internationally and specifically in the Middle East would be advantageous.
- Experience and/or formal qualification in Engineering Management Systems / Quality Management Systems and Project Management and delivery
- Working in, or interfacing with end users in the Middle East and surrounding region.
- Experience on patrol boats, OPVs, corvettes, or fast attack craft.
- Knowledge of combat system integration, CMS interfaces, sensor fusion or surveillance systems.
- Familiarity with IPMS systems, PLC programming, or marine electronics OEM equipment (e.g. Raytheon, Thales, Sperry, Furuno, etc.).
- Certifications: Marine Electrical Engineering, ETO CoC, STCW III/6, or equivalent defense technical qualification.
