Job Title:
Ship-to-Shore (STS) Crane Operator

Location:
Qatar


As a Ship-to-Shore (STS) Crane Operator, you will be responsible for operating our STS crane equipment to facilitate container loading and unloading operations at our port facility.

Your primary objective will be to ensure the safe and efficient movement of containers between vessels and the terminal yard, adhering to all operational and safety procedures.


Key Responsibilities:

Safe Operation: Operate the STS crane equipment safely and proficiently, following all safety protocols and guidelines to prevent accidents and ensure the safety of personnel and cargo.

Container Handling: Efficiently load and unload containers from vessels, using the STS crane to move containers between the ship and the terminal yard, ensuring accurate placement and secure stowage.

Equipment Maintenance: Perform routine inspections and maintenance checks on the STS crane equipment to ensure optimal performance, identifying and reporting any mechanical issues or defects.

Vessel Communication: Maintain clear and effective communication with vessel crews, port pilots, and other port personnel to coordinate container handling operations and ensure smooth vessel berthing and departure.

Yard Management: Work closely with yard planners and supervisors to prioritize container handling tasks, optimize yard space utilization, and maintain efficient workflow within the terminal yard.

Safety Compliance: Ensure compliance with all relevant safety regulations, industry standards, and port operational policies, including weight and height restrictions for container handling and stowage.

Documentation: Accurately record and maintain documentation related to container handling activities, including vessel manifests, loading/unloading logs, and equipment maintenance records.

Emergency Response: Respond promptly and effectively to any emergency situations or equipment malfunctions, following established emergency procedures and protocols to minimize downtime and mitigate risks.

Training and Development: Stay updated on STS crane operating procedures, safety regulations, and equipment technology advancements through ongoing training and professional development opportunities.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Proven experience as a ShiptoShore (STS) Crane Operator or similar role in a port or maritime environment.
  • Valid certification or license to operate STS crane equipment.
  • Strong understanding of safety regulations and operational procedures related to shiptoshore container handling operations.
  • Excellent handeye coordination and spatial awareness.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and communicate clearly with colleagues.
  • Physical fitness and stamina to perform tasks in a demanding and sometimes hazardous environment.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to upholding high standards of operational efficiency and safety.
