Purpose:
The Deputy Lead Houseparent will workwith the Lead Houseparent to ensure a consistently high-qualityboarding provision for boarding students.

When the Lead Houseparentis off duty, the Deputy oversees the daily registration ofboarders, communication with parents and guardians, lead on out ofhours medical care and ensure Health and Safety procedures arefollowed, including overnight security of the boarding house, andapproving off site permissions.

They will have excellent knowledgeof Inspection and Compliance for boarding schools.

The role willinclude the management of up to 5 members of staff andapproximately 100+ boarding students during a duty shift.


Workinghours/pattern:
On site at ACS Cobham, term time only, 49 hours perweek, on a fortnightly rota, working every other weekend (4 daysand nights off over the fortnight, and 1 night off everyweek)

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
General Duties

  • Deputy Lead Houseparent is responsible for the day to day runningand organisation of the boarding house
  • Develop strongteam working within the boarding house to support and maintain highstandards across the Boarding House
  • Ensure the boardinghouse is compliant with all health and safety procedures, includingbeing secured and alarmed overnight when on duty
  • Resideovernight in the house and be on call for emergencysituations
  • Remaining duties involve pastoral care andwellbeing of students, academic progress and student enrichment,health and safety and administration and communication plus beingon overnight call as and when required

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS &EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor s degree/Bachelor ofEducation
  • Teaching qualification (PGCE or equivalent)preferable
  • Competent with IT skills
  • Experiencein leading staff and line management (essential)
  • Previousexperience of leading a boarding house at a senior level(essential)
  • Experience of dealing with student behaviourincluding managing the issuing of sanctions (essential)
  • Able to demonstrate management of complex stakeholder situationswith parents/guardians/agents (essential)
  • Experience ofmanaging H&S issues and legislation in relation to aresidential establishment
  • Strong knowledge of theNational Minimum Standards for boarding Experience in leading andorganising activities
  • Experience of working pastorallywith students aged 13-19 year, ideally in a boardingsetting
  • Sound interpersonal and supervisoryskills
  • Demonstrate consistently high standards ofpersonal and professional conduct
  • Fluent in written andspoken English
  • Flexible and imaginative with awell-developed sense of humour
  • Ability to use initiativeand think flexibly about possible solutions
