The UK Mission to Afghanistan at the British Embassy in Doha is part of a worldwide network that represents political, economic, security and consular interests overseas and is now looking for a
Press and Politics Officer, job grade Executive Officer (EO).


Duties and responsibilities:

Politics & Press Reporting

Produce daily press summaries for UKMIS and wider network by analysing Pashto and Dari media (including social media).

Summarise key developments and debates in a daily round-up providing insight into trends, discussions and events in Afghanistan's public and politics.

Communications & Social Media

Support UKMIS in publishing Pashto and Dari-language content on Social Media channels to deliver on this approach. Advise UKMIS on communications approach in order to maximise impact and reach multiple Afghan audiences.

Politics & Logistics Support


Support Political Team by helping to develop and manage UKMIS' network with a broad range of contacts across the political spectrum in Afghanistan - including with de facto authorities, provincial and local leaders, minority groups, civil society, and the media.

Help to prioritise, plan and co-ordinate the delivery of UKMIS engagements with these contacts while providing advice on local culture and customs and translation.

Essential qualifications, skills and experience

  • Fluency in written and spoken English, Pashto and Dari (this will be tested at interview).
  • A detailed and in depth knowledge and understanding of Afghan politics, history and culture.
  • An established network of political contacts in Afghanistan, including in provinces outside of Kabul.
  • Experience of external communications including social media.
  • Confidence to express ideas clearly and concisely. Credibility and personal impact to engage with senior UK/Afghan political figures.
  • Personal initiative, drive and ability to work both independently and as a part of a team.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and team working skills.
  • Strong planning, organisational and time management skills.
  • Flexibility and resilience to deliver results under pressure. Creative thinking skills.
  • It is essential to have a minimum of a Bachelor's degree.
  • Building the capabilities of the team for political analysis and reporting and stakeholder management.
Desirable qualifications, skills and experience

Other benefits and conditions of employment

Eligibility:


Applicants must already reside in Qatar and hold the right to live and work there, including those either under spouse sponsorship or be able to transfer an existing sponsorship to the British Embassy.

If sponsorship transfer is required, all sponsorship incurred fees shall be borne by the successful applicant. The Embassy cannot guarantee how much cost or time it may take for the process to complete.

Working Hours and Remuneration:


The British Embassy offers a competitive remuneration package, including non-negotiable salary of
QR 15,329 per calendar month and transportation allowance of
QR 800 per calendar month, paid in arrears.

No accommodation and relocation expenses are payable in connection with this position.
